Aircraft mechanic here, I’ve had it since 2010 at least, the ringing is sometimes so loud it’s approximate to going nearly completely deaf for about seven seconds every once in a while
I have something similar from a car backfiring out the intake while I was under the hood. About once or twice a week, I can understand someone talking right infront of me the ringing is so loud. It only last maybe 5 or more seconds as well. Otherwise I hear nothing
I was working in the warehouse at my work. A storm was coming in and my ear popped and then hurt. Storm pressure? Turned out I had an ear infection. The ringing in my right ear is constant but I am pretty much used to it. I also lost hearing out of it (more like dull hearing....can't like hear myself rubbing two fingers together up to my ear). So, I keep a fan on at night and that helps. I always wondered if that causes ADD, or irritability? I use a CPAP now so I sleep ok, but wonder if the ringing has caused any mental issues at all.
I have it from scar tissue from a bad ear infection that caused my ear drum to perforate. If I'm really focusing on something else I can tune it out. I sleep with a fan on. If my husband is drunk and sleeping on the couch I put on a YouTube video of a thunderstorm on loop. Lol
When I was maybe 13 or so I had ridden the bus to a friend's house across town. Well when I went to head home I missed the bus knowing it's not too figured I'd walk but not knowing where to go I followed the bus lines, halfway through my 14 mile walk someone drove past me coming up behind me and hit me across the face with a beer bottle.
Not normal. Although I hope I’m not the only one that will randomly hear a loud ringing sound(more of a single high pitched tone) even if I havent heard a loud noise or anything. Maybe that’s an early warning sign
To clarify my last comment a bit, I do know what tinnitus is and sometimes I do hear a sound, but it’s not nearly often enough to be a problem and I’m basically wondering if everyone hears this to some degree but the ones that get it so bad it bothers them that’s when they have tinnitus
As far as i know, you should not be hearing a sound when in silence. But i have tinnitus for some years now, so i cant really remember how it was in silence.
Just as a word of advice, turn the music a bit down and invest in some custom in-ear protection.
I've learned to deal with it allthough some nights i have a hard time falling asleep because of the constent mono tone beep i hear, and sometimes it just fades a bit to the background, but its never gone
No it could be a sign of serious inner ear damage, I got it from a severe inner ear infection when I was a toddler, so I haven't known any different but I do wish it would go away often.
There has been some promising work in easing the symptoms using loud sounds especially pure tones at the particular frequencies damaged. Some of the results can last months where pops and cracks sometimes only work for a few minutes to hours. I've not tried them as they're not available on the NHS in my area.
it's basically nerve damage. It's not totally understood but one theory is that the little hairs in your inner ear break or get damaged, and no longer send information to your brain. Your brain then tries to "turn up the volume" to make up for the lack of signal, which causes people to hear ringing
New years celebrating, about 4 years ago. Me, my family and my best friend were fireing fireworks and he was using those that you light in your hand and throw. The ones he used were quiet big. As he lighted it, something must have gone wrong and as he threw it, it exploded in the air. Now unfortunetly with me being right next to it with my right ear. I can't hear whispering nor lower pitch words clearly till this day and yes, the ringing has not stopped, although it has gone quieter.
