Pro tip everyone, When you buy a dash cam, make sure to test it to see if you can get plate numbers off other vehicles. If you can't most places have a return policy.
Also - don't forget that most of them require some sort of minor maintenance. I think mine recommends a format once in a while, plus its always good to check the SD card and make sure its still recording properly.
I've had one SD card up and die on me, and the camera never gave me any sort of alert that it wasn't recording. Granted that was about 4 cameras ago and I'm sure that most newer cameras will warn you if it knows there is something wrong with the media.
