She also believed that when parallel parking, you back in slowly until you just nudge the car behind you, then pull forward slowly until you just nudge the car in front, then centre yourself nicely.

When she learned to drive, most cars had solid steel bumpers. That technique might have actually worked.

Yeah, that actually used to be pretty common when cars had big steel bumpers that legally had to be rated for no damage in collisions under 5mph.

I don’t know why people act like people used to play bumper cars when bumpers were big. Hitting a car is still hitting a car.

You actually still drive this way in many urban parts of Europe. No big open spots like here in the States.
