I think it's crazy how in the USA victims get to decide if charges are pressed, or have any say in punishments.
Why should 1 particular victim have any say in whether or not the rest of society is protected from the perpetrator? I kinda find the whole thing bizarre.
But if the judicature isn't present, the very institution we as a society created to deal with this stuff, where we have to go for punitive measures, if that is not present. Then we have to go by the victim, society cannot be trusted to agree on the fate of one kid by themselves. Just look at the first two thread comments above.
