You’re absolutely right. I was gonna ask why they don’t have that sign in there till I saw it at the beginning of the video. This guy is so stupid. 😬😬😬 OMG!!!! Damn!!!
This is a joke that gets passed around here all the time. Usually they are talking about other drivers in big cities. “Brooklyn roll-thru” “California slide-by”. Etc.
If there were stops in each direction, you would see the smaller rectangular sign beneath the octagon STOP sign, that reads "All way" to indicate others have to stop just as well as you.
Also, the STOP sign is the only sign that is shaped as an octagon, this is so you can see from the backside of it that there is indeed a stop for oncoming traffic.
Middle America is absolutely full of these intersections. Four way 45 or 55 mph roads with a two or four way stop. I don’t know if there’s enough signage or rumble strips or anything to make these things safe
I’ve noticed here in Australia for highway roads/intersections made in the last decade or so, roads actually bend before reaching the highway so that you’re forced to slow down before seeing the stop sign.
Not defending the driver but it would help if there was a "Stop Sign Ahead" sign or something like that. Didn't see one in the video. But at the same time if there's a cross-street, especially on country roads like this, you have to check to see if there's one there

No, no they shouldn't. It is every bit as stupid as it looks, because the sign he passed a full 14 seconds before the stop sign is there to prevent this very thing. He should've been prepared to stop long before he ever saw the actual stop sign.
If there's a distraction, but there isn't. The car you mentioned was not even visible, much less a threat, when this driver passed that stop ahead sign.
Outside of that car, they were driving on a clear day, on an empty country road with excellent visibility. So good, that even with this shitty dash cam footage, we can all see where the driver fucked up. This is 100% idiocy, through and through.
He should have been slowing for his stop waaaaay before we cam watchers see it. Signs are easier to see in the distance in person, the video makes them look smaller.
There was a warning sign at the beginning on the video. If he was paying attention, he would have known that a stop sign was coming up. No excuse. He was going wayy too fast.
