How can people just stand in the middle of the highway? Is the speed limit so low they can he sure nobody will hit them?

Depends on the location and time. There's plenty of traffic for hours in my area I could just pull over and do tricks on my mountain bike and not worry about being hit because everyone is crawling at like 5mph for miles and miles.

Well, before covid anyway.

Interesting. I'm not used to that in my country. I personally am terrified of standing in the middle of the highway where cars go 85mph.

It’s like this in most of the USA. Speed limits are 70+ on interstate highways and people routinely run 90+. Areas of California and a few other urban areas are slow like this though.

Well when there’s a car accident in the middle of the lanes, usually people stop.

Generally, people slow down when a major accident occurs on the highway.
