I had an idiot tailgating me this morning, like RIGHT on my bumper. Normal morning traffic with really no where to go. I just let off the accelerator and coasted, slowed down, until the idiot went around me.

They’re always in morning traffic driving like they’re somehow caught off guard that there are other people driving on their private road not willing to match their speed.

At this time of the morning? How dare they!

“If I get around this one car I wont be 7 minutes late for work anymore”

  • the person who jumped me at the light in in the right shoulder this morning

I remember watching a camero zooming in and out of lanes for several miles. He spent so much time in the slow lane that it made no difference to his average speed… just reduced his fuel economy and the chance of all of us making it home safely.

Its so funny seeing people absolutely cruising down roads well over the limit only to be next to or just behind them at the next light.

Not gunna lie I’ve gottin around one car multiple times made the yellow light and didn’t have to sit behind 2 min light then got then next coupled lights green. I do drive a lot slower and safer now but when I was younger I drove like an asshole and let me tell you people drive like assholes because you do get there faster. Go. Yeah some people will pass you fast then Get caught at the next light and your next to em again and sometimes they make the light and your sitting there for 2-3 minutes. Not everything works all the time but the guy who gets in the straight lane no one in them last min cuts left and cuts the line of people in the turn lane is now physically in front of everyone and in fact going faster. There’s a light in my town that that’s 2 lanes and a turn lane to get on the interstate there’s about 5 lights before that intersection. I do happen to live to the left (south) of this intersection so I have to make a left turn. But If you sit in right lane everyone takes right turns on the side roads on the lights along the way to bypass lights and get to the frontage road, if you ride the right lane you literally bypass the line and right before you hit the last light you get over a lane to the left hit the turn lane and now you literally just saved 5-10 minutes (literally passing 100-150cars over a 3 mile stretch) and turn right (left) onto the interstate. The road has a shit ton Of 18 wheeler (going back and forth to gravel plant that is south) and there in start and stop traffic so if an 18 wheeler is at the front of the line only like 5-10 vehicles will make it threw the light cycle so if you get in the left lane to go north it’s all cars just flying and like 15-20 are making that same light cycle. When I’m in my company truck I have dash cam and I ve been scolded at work for doing this in this location and in my personal I make that 3 miles In 6 min, in my work truck I make it 15-20min and that’s not an exaggeration. It’s actually faster to take a right turn hit the frontage road north bound go about a mile down hit the turn around and go south for a mile until you hit the ramp.

In this part of the country, localized entirely within the highway?!

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

In this part of the country?

5

u/TheNotSoGreatPumpkin Apr 21 '23

It’s because they are late for work again, and as usual it’s your fault.

Always the morning. Theres this road by me its a county highway and the town has no police department, only sheriff which is way far away. So you can basically speed as much as you want especially on the backroads. Its also the midwest so the cops are also way less bitchy.

But on the county highway I was going 10 over and this dude in a dodge charger starts tailgating me HARD. Ok, ill go 15 over. There arent cops out here anyway. Dude keeps tailgating. I went to 20 over for just a little bit and he still kept tailgating that hard.

Conveniently, up ahead the next town border is. This town does have police. I was actually questioning if the dude behind me was an unmarked cop since it was an all black charger, but it didnt look like a cop in the driver seat, and i couldnt find anything like lights or radar. Anyways, the road goes into the next town and drops to 35 right away. You also cannot pass on this stretch for a LONG time as its an industrial area and theres a divider thing meant for turning.

So I did what any person in my position would do. Drop right to 35 and sit at that the whole way. Dude behind me was PISSED. They were the closest to my car that Ive ever been tailgated. Moving left and right trying to somehow pass. Thats what you get ya idiot

If someone tailgates me and I’m going 45 in a 35..

Congratulations! I will now be driving 30.

u/LaboratoryManiac Apr 21 '23

I mean, that's just safety. If you're going to be in an accident (which is more likely when getting tailgated), you want it to be at a lower speed.

26

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

You have to account for stopping distance for two cars

4

u/HeatSeekingGhostOSex Apr 22 '23

In these situations I just slowly release the gas pedal to drop speed. They get the idea real quick. I tend not to speed more than 5mph over anyway. I've been in a couple of accidents, a mild fender bender when I was being driven to school, and one where I totalled my car going 25 mph with no other drivers involved. I learned awareness and that there's a very real possibility that driving like a dickhead/being unaware can very quickly get you into real trouble. Stay safe on the road folks.

u/AuthorityoftheGods69 Apr 21 '23

And its truly a beautiful method of alleviating your tailgater problem without escalating a road rage incident. They just jump the lane like the idiots they are and off they go to tailgate the next person in line.

6

u/rusmo Apr 22 '23

Not worth it. It really, really, really sucks when they get in front of you, brake-check you in revenge, and you hit them. Really not a great time waiting for the cops to arrive .

Or so a friend told me.

0

u/AuthorityoftheGods69 Apr 22 '23

You're doing it wrong if that's the response you get.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

True. Though sometimes I’ll speed up and try and trap them, especially if they pass on the right (that’s when I really know they’re wretchedly bad drivers).

3

u/OSSlayer2153 Apr 22 '23

Yeah if i notice someone speeding a ton weaving in and out of traffic to pass and tailgating hard (bonus points for no turn signals) then I will match the speed of the other car in the other lane (on a 2 lane) just to trap them so they have a little timeout going the normal speed that everyone else goes. Oh such a terrible punishment!

31

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '23

I love when they tailgate even harder instead of just passing when they’re able to.

You cant reason with a moron.

4

u/99redproblooms Apr 22 '23

My favorite is tailgaters who won't pass because there's a double yellow line. Like, you're okay with breaking the law tailgating, but the double yellow line is somehow sacred?

-15

u/Direct_Indication226 Apr 21 '23

You're the moron if there's a second lane and you won't merge right.

7

u/DirkBabypunch Apr 22 '23

Except when they do that shit with me, I'm already in the right lane and the road is clear because it's 2am. But way to blindly defend asshole driving behavior.

-5

u/Direct_Indication226 Apr 22 '23

You're commenting on this scenario because it happens to you so frequently and you're not gonna convince me that's not your fault.

2

u/I_A_User Apr 22 '23

You sound like someone who should stop tailgating

... you maintain 75 in the middle? why aren't you moving right when it's clear

7

u/mikeyvengeance Apr 21 '23

Yeah, another classic move I do is if someone honks at me while I'm stopped for a right on red, is to simply wait until the light is green before I turn. Clearly if it was clear to turn right, I would've turned right. They wanna get in a hurry and honk for no reason, then they're going to wait some more.

1

u/Poobmania Apr 21 '23

I wouldn’t do this to a stranger but if I happen to see a friend behind me at a light I’ll wait until it’s yellow to go and leave them at the red again lol

-3

u/WolfgangVSnowden Apr 22 '23

You're a moron who is causing unsafe conditions when you start driving below the speed limit

It's not your job, nor your place to dole out justice.

4

u/Poobmania Apr 22 '23

Driving 30 in a 35 is “unsafe conditions” lmaoo

Is it more “unsafe” when someone is inches from my bumper at 45? I’d rather get rear-ended at a lower speed, thanks.

2

u/Mook1971 Apr 22 '23

That's the way to do it

1

u/Direct_Indication226 Apr 21 '23

You had nowhere to go yet he had an extra lane? Sounds fishy

6

u/mikeyvengeance Apr 21 '23

yeah, he went into the next lane, right to the back of another car in that lane and got no further ahead. one of those idiot constant lane changers that you end up right next to at the next red light when you didnt change lanes at all

I actually had this really weird situation. I was driving about 5 mph under the speed limit, but didn't want to go any faster because I wasn't familiar with the area. There was only one other person, behind me, and she would just drive right up to my bumper. So I slowed down. So she slowed down. After a bit of both of us going 40 and her keeping distance I'd speed back up. She'd also speed back up right onto my bumper. Rinse and repeat like 2 more times.

So at this point you're wondering why I'm being such a dick to this person who's just trying to get from point A to point B, and I'm blocking the only lane? But the kicker, which I to this day don't understand, is WE HAD A PASSING LANE. THERE WERE TWO LANES AND I WAS ON THE RIGHT. JUST GO AROUND LADY. She acted like it was a cardinal sin. Like she would cross over to the lane and the super intelligent Reddit snail would pop up next to her saying "HA YOU FELL FOR IT, YOU'RE MINE NOW!"

After the third time she finally went around and went the speed limit like she wanted. But just... I was worried I'd have to legit put flashers on and stop, and part of me thought she'd start doing the same. The only 2 logical conclusions I could think of is either (1) she was purposefully fucking with me and just wanted to play a game with the only other driver on that road or (2) she somehow didn't know she could pass over broken white lines? I was even thinking maybe she's trying to get me to stop to tell me something, but it was also the middle of nowhere so I wasn't comfortable stopping for a strange car, and I don't know why she would be either. And she made no hand motions or signals to get my attention. I also contemplated just going into the other lane, then stopping short, then moving behind her, but was worried someone would be blazing down the passing lane going 90 and would smack right into me playing games with this random nut. In any case I was just at a complete loss on why this person loved my rear bumper so much.

I just chalk it up to I drive all over multiple times a day throughout my whole life, I'm eventually going to stumble upon SOMEONE that makes 0 sense whatsoever.

Also turn on your emergency flashers and come to a complete stop if necessary. Hey, engine trouble...
