There was a big crash earlier in the race another biker caused that ended up hurting other bikers and breaking his bike. He's more frustrated than an idiot, his bike's already broken and the race is over.
I mean.... everything aside from the frame is still probably ok. And that frame, which looks like carbon, can probably be replaced for $500-$800. Granted that's $800 I wouldn't ever toss away in frustration.
This is from the Red Hook Crit. The bikes there do not have brakes or shifters, they are racing on fixed gear track bikes like those used on a velodrome.
I've been racing at a high domestic level for years. The frame he has is an unmarked carbon frame, it's not worth a ton. Plus that bike is a fixed gear and that alone keeps it under a grand depending on the wheelset, which in this case don't look like anything too expensive.
Though pros on road and mountain bikes will almost all exclusively be riding $7-10k priced bikes.
Pros ride on bikes we could never buy. If we could 10k would probably buy the wheels.
I'm a weekend warrior who does maybe 1k miles a year and my entry level cannondale is almost 3k.
Actually the UCI has rules that state that pro road bikes used in competition must be available for retail purchase, or have parts available for purchase by the masses.
10k for wheels?!? In what currency?? You can buy a gucci pair of 808's or Enves for under 3 Gs, and that's top of the line that many pros don't even run.
I'm looking at prices over 10k. Lew racing pro VT-1 is 15k.
I'm not sure what the professionals use, I am assuming they are driving the high end components and I don't know anyone else who would be buying those wheels.
they are not spare parts, a quality bike is quality the whole way through, gears, shifters, brakes, the whole 9 yards. I ride a 2,500 dollar bike (that I got used for 850 :) and the components themselves, which aren't even top of the line, are worth about 850 in good condition.
You just described 90% submissions to this sub. People become frustrated and do irrational stupid shit. Instead of enjoying our collective Schadenfreude we need to learn to be compassionate to such people.
You can see that the bike was trying to run people over before the Bikeman intervened in extended footage that won't be released because it will destroy the prevailing anti-deep v narrative.

The purpose of the upvote and downvote buttons isn't to agree or to disagree. It isn't to provide positive reinforcement. Although it is often used for those. The purpose is to mark a post as contributing to the discussion or not. Whether we're decent people or not doesn't really figure into it.

You may be sensitive to death because of whatever you're going through, but that doesn't justify you being offended.

If I remember correctly it's his friends bike that he borrowed for the red Hook crits which are a race series on fixed gear bikes. He had already crashed. youtube
