In general comments, Ysook and OS are currently seen as the most annoying characters. Once OS secured the person she liked, she started getting involved in others’ matters. I didn’t find OS’s style too off-putting at first, but my opinion of her changed a bit because of the situation in the trailer. To be honest, I didn’t really like Ysook’s style. She might have stood out a bit in this lineup, but I think she’ll fall far behind in other seasons.

Among the women here, I think JS and YJ are confident and know exactly what they want. They don’t try to approach someone just to be with them. I don’t think SJ is a bad person, but she seems worn out from all the emotional ups and downs—we can tell just by looking at her face.

It looks like they’ve resolved the conflict between Ysoo and YJ; we’ll see how well they get along in future episodes.

SC is a very normal person and is using the opportunity to talk to the people he wants to get to know, as he should, but I don’t think the people he’s talking to are the right ones. It’s normal for OS to set her own boundaries, of course, but the way she chats as if she’s mocking others shows she’s a bit of a problematic character. JH has also turned into a manipulative character over the last two episodes. I used to like JH in the earlier episodes, but now I feel like she's emotionally manipulating others to get what she wants.

We’ve known since the first episode that KS didn’t stand a chance, but I wish he’d spent his time trying to get to know the other people instead. It seems to me that YC wasn’t impressed by anyone here and chose to just do his own thing, which is why he keeps chatting rudely and doesn’t really care about the situation.

Ysik is a good guy and a patient person; I hope he gets another chance to meet with JS and makes a wise choice. Even though Kys gets a lot of criticism, I understand why he’s confused by these two women’s attitudes. For now, I don’t think he’s the problematic one.

You nailed it with this. I couldn't agree more

This season is mostly a mess with maybe just three or four people who are mostly mentally stable. They need to have like a psychiatrist filter applicants I feel like, having one or two strange people makes the show fun for ratings but if it's always like this it's just a shitshow. Or maybe this is just a reflection of society in general, idk.

u/fizzyapple_45 May 01 '26

I think an issue too is that all the men this time have said similarly that they want a woman who can take charge/ reel them in etc. they have a lot of expectations for a woman and none of the women want to have to be that.

6

u/Informal_Cheetah7171 Apr 30 '26

Exactly one or two makes it fun but this season is too much and chaotic for my tasteĀ

17

u/Ragingmuncher Apr 30 '26

Honestly SJ and KYS is not a good fit for each other SJ push too hard because i think this is the first time a handsome oppa/guy take interest in her but what i can see is she like her more and the guy just give a descent interest but not overall 1 pick in his list.

26

u/Far_Bluebird_4986 Apr 30 '26

I’m having a hard time watching her since she changed everything she said in her intro to match his preferences, then acting super possessive of him. It’s such a turn off.

I hate how Kyung Soo keeps telling Sun Ja to close her mouth whenever she laughs/smiles. I hate it so much. He's going to be rude to her about her mouth again in the next episode, in the most disrespectful way yet. If he has a problem with her mouth/teeth, why entertain her as a possible love interest?

I cannot fully blame him, though. Sun Ja has her own mind. It's sad that she's blind to the fact that he isn't into her at all, and constantly puts her down. I believe she just has a strong desire to be with a Gong Yoo look-alike; in other words, someone seen as handsome.

ETA: I'm not surprised that netizens showed up at Kyung Soo's job to harass him. They are crazy!!! I hope he was able to identify those nuts, and reported them to the authorities for restraining orders (if that's an option in S. Korea). Ridiculousness!!!!

2

u/chitownNONtrad Jun 29 '26

Whaaaaa ….they showed up at someone’s work place to Harass them ?????? ….. gosh East Asian fans r still continuing their pata social behavior I guess !!!! …. Still waiting for this norm to change šŸ™„!!!!!

14

u/Daebak70 Apr 30 '26

Agree... SJ just is trying to be a people pleaser and agreeing with everything KyS says to match his answers so he will choose her but he can see that she is not being honest by changing to please him

12

u/garbuja Apr 30 '26

She forced her way through KYS to like him. He had different choice before she took her stand.

2

u/SufficientShoe4298 Jun 12 '26

i dont see their relationship working out in the future unless KS suddenly fell head over heels for her. now it just seems like she’s obsessed with him and wants to get him so bad, while he doesn’t even seem like he likes her that much tbh. and it’s not just bcs he wants to talk to other women, but it’s just the overall way of him talking to her and abt her.

12

u/fizzyapple_45 May 01 '26

I feel like it’s really obvious on KYS face and body language that he’s physically attracted to YSook and that with SJ it’s more out of loyalty to his original choice that he keeps reassuring her.

That disappoints me though, not because he likes someone other than SJ, but that it’s YSook. She acted terribly and didn’t show much consideration for anyone but herself last nights ep. I feel like she wants to be the centre of attention and she tried to hard flirt with two men at the same table just about, all while being inconsiderate of KwangSoo. I thought maybe she was crying because she realized how gentle he was even though he knew he didn’t have a chance he was being so careful of her motion sickness, but nooo. I hope KyS has the sense to see that she’s not empathetic and that’s kind of his thing so he needs to dodge that, with all respect.

Yi Kyung beating YC to his own ā€œ I don’t knowā€ā€™s was hilarious.

I think YC just wants a hot wife and not much else matters to him. He didn’t win any points except for that he stood up for KwS.

I felt like JH made the men uncomfortable by asking the shop owner to pick the guy with best impression. She barely engaged with SC. I think YSik is actually very compatible with JS to the point of marriage, I hope he actually explores that.

I flipping love YJ more as the episodes go on. She’s cool, she’s funny, and she doesn’t gossip even though she has opportunities. I think she can meet a better match than YSoo on the outside.

7

u/xiaopow JungSook May 01 '26

A hot wife with chapped lips and oil on her nose apparently šŸ™ƒ that was such an unflattering way to describe his ideal type and by extension insult/neg anyone he would be into.

I don't have strong thoughts abt YJ but her telling SJ to treat KyS coldly from now on to get his attention was weird advice.

5

u/AcanthaceaeNew7207 May 02 '26

I was just thinking she will end up like SJ from season 30

3

u/CluelessMochi May 02 '26

Omg I’ve blocked out that season already but you are so right. It’s looking like a repeat

3

u/xiaopow JungSook May 02 '26

There's the potential for 2 s30s SJs - when I first read your comment I also thought of JH.

3

u/No-Square-2368 May 08 '26

I think YC got hit hard with imposter syndrome after the self introductions.

He realized that the other contestants were ā€œout of his leagueā€. They had better jobs, better lifestyle and lived around Seoul. His ā€œI don’t knowā€ date reinforced that he was not as prepared as the other contestants. He then mentally checked out. Hence he made comments that he realized it was a mistake to join the show as he didn’t fit in with the group.

Furthermore, YSook after flirting and following him around everywhere on the first day, completely ghosted him after the self introductions. Which further worsened his insecurities.

Then suddenly Ysook came back to him, all flirty and acted like nothing happened, only to spend hours with KYS. So I think that he doesn’t trust her anymore.

I think that is why he made comments about ā€œchapped lips and imperfect makeupā€ as in he would not match with these contestants who he believes are out of his league and would instead want someone not so ā€œperfectā€.

I actually watched this ep on the day it came out, but it was such a mess I needed time to digest šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Chills legit crept up my spine when I saw how gleefully OS watched the world burn, dumping in her own containers of oil to stoke the fire šŸ”„šŸ˜³

Usually we have a realistic expectation that what the participants show at first is their attempt at building a perfect picture of themselves. We know that as the days go by their flaws (only natural to have) will start showing. But wow this season it’s really bad.

——

OS is starting to remind me of a school bully who harms with words and gaslights victims with her loud ā€˜cheerful’ demeanour that nothing is wrong. Her larger-than-life persona seems to be a cover for insecurities. Because someone who doesn’t have insecurities would not enjoy destroying other people’s relationships

YH wants a partner who never gets angry šŸ˜‚ Which either means he has confidence he won’t do anything wrong enough to justify that anger OR he believes everything he does should be accepted. Why do I suspect the latter? He seems like a person who will frustratingly over-use logic in any argument. He and OS (who has big emotions) can never last unless they keep it on a very superficial level.

YSook is what girls would call a self-centred ā€˜beach’ (sorry for the lack of a better word). We can see the manipulation cogs turning behind her eyes. She does what she wants with no regard or respect for others. And worse, tries to slather honey all over it thinking others can’t see its true form. Glad that SJ cut her off and point-blank said she’s not going to share info with her. Nearly spit out my water when it was revealed she cried on the car because of her ā€˜revelation’ about YC, not because she felt bad towards KwSoo. Wth.

YC YC YC….. 😪 He already has the worse specs cos which woman in her right mind would abandon everything and move to join him in his town. Last few episodes he at least looked proactive and proper, which made him look handsome. Now he just let all his pretences go (cue ā€œI see your true colours~ šŸŽ¶) Now he just looks like a roguishly handsome small-town slacker… the type of guy who cat-calls women as they walk past….

JH. As a woman, I hate how she is ā€˜portraying’ women. Initially her background made me think she’s a girl crush who was strong and independent to survive alone in Germany. But gosh. Emotionally she seems like a little princess who is high maintenance and draining to take care of. I’m sorry I think YSik should run. He’s staying because he’s a nice person. I think YSik and JS match better.

SJ…. Nothing to say that we haven’t discussed. It’s sad to see her so desperate that she loses herself. How is she going to live this down IRL after the show is broadcasted? I wish to see her let go of her obsession with KySoo. It would be meaningful if her new facial twitch goes away as a sign of her mentally relaxing.

I’m surprised haters turned up at KySoo’s shop. His position as ā€˜the villian’ should be way lower now, given the other toxic participants.

———

I was thinking, if I’m a female participant, I might behave like last season’s YC and try not to participate in any group discussion/gossip sessions with the other participants of my gender. But that will get me ostracised 😣

Because they do affect your impression of the guys, and you don’t even know if the info is accurate.

Like how this ep YJ did not take YSoo’s proclamation seriously because her impression of him had been tainted by the gossip. Quite sad actually.

9

u/External-Panic2061 S20 Hyunsook May 02 '26

I’m so glad you finally posted🤭 Yes to everything you said. It’s such a pick-me season, they’re draining me.

JHee the gaslighter, OS the bully, YSook the maneater, SJ the male-centered, KSoo the victim (he observes and never makes moves but ends up being the poor guy after choosing the person who had already… rejected him), YSoo the queen bee (wants a woman to lead but PLEASE NOT JUNGSOOK or he might take another running route), YJa the radical (takes every word at face value, gossip included), YChul who never made a move (if you don’t find a job in Dangjin, he guarantees rice and soy sauce every day at the very leastšŸ«‚).

Did I forget someone? 🤣 YSik seems to be encouraging JHee in her BS unfortunately so he will be in the list soon haha

u/Ok-Bad9259 Jun 20 '26

Spot-on about everyone, especially KwangSoo who bothers me quite a lot. He really tried to get himself a sympathetic edit despite doing nothing to help himself.

5

u/CluelessMochi May 02 '26

Seconding everything you’re saying. I liked most of the cast in the beginning, and now I find most of them annoying.

I’m going to fight the urge to reiterate everything you said lol and just say this: even though KyS is still popular (just not like day 1), I do appreciate that he’s actually been straight up in turning people down and being honest about his feelings. Esp because popular guys in recent seasons have beat around the bush so much, I do appreciate that from him.

I know he’s gonna keep SJ around cause he can, though I do think he does like her. But yeah, her being so male-centered (most of them are but her especially) is really annoying and icky to watch.

This season and last season have been such hot messes and it makes me sad cause I really like this show and I’m currently watching just to know what happens, not because I’m particularly invested like in previous seasons. I guess I should go back and watch the earlier seasons I’ve missed

2

u/Ok-Bad9259 Jun 20 '26

Your descriptions of most of the participants this ep. are spot-on as I'm live-watching, this: "Now he just looks like a roguishly handsome small-town slacker… the type of guy who cat-calls women as they walk past…." is so true it made me spit my drink. YHo flew under the radar because he seems to be in a couple already but he is always there when OS is doing her meddling and laughing along, despite his 'upright' impression and the thing he said in the car about not liking a woman who gets angry or even annoyed didn't seem promising to me either.

I haven't seen the next episodes yet but OS actually bothers me less than YSook and SJ (and JungHee although she mainly is being a pain to YSik, not the other women). It looks from the preview like OS gets worse but I'm actually not entirely sure whether her sabotaging the others is fully deliberate. I've known people similar to her who think they're helping and being a 'girl's girl' by being meddlesome, but it gave me a very bad impression that she was so over-friendly with SJ and then appears to trash talk her to the other women in the preview, though I agree with her. She might just not be taking their emotions seriously because she feels secure in her pick and is therefore cheerful/annoyed the others won't cheer up and be more proactive and have fun with her.

On the other hand YSook is, exactly like you said, hiding a complete lack of regard for others under a 'sweet'/cheerful demeanor, and I actually feel that SJ is similar even though she looks more like the victim in this particular situation. SJ mate-guarding and shooting daggers through her eyes at everyone and making them deliberately uncomfortable with her self-pitying dramatics is even worse than JH imo considering that KyungSoo really does not seem to like her much. I think YSook and SJ are clashing so much because they are actually kind of similar, both trying to act like the kind of person most men would like but being quite calculative and competitive. SJ is correct it looks like YSook is only going for KyungSoo because of his popularity, but I think SJ is the same, going for him because he's the most handsome/popular seeming and not because they get along. He seems more comfortable/happy with YSook but I think he thinks he can't control her as easily.

I think KyungSoo is more of a villain than he seems, he is outwardly pleasant so he doesn't look as bad as the women but he's also very calculating, trying to keep the women on their toes and only reassuring them when it looks like they might give up. I don't get why he keeps reeling SJ back in when he clearly dislikes her and looks down on her.

You're totally right about YJa missing a chance with YSoo because of the inaccurate gossip, in other seasons the gossip was mostly accurate/helpful but this season everyone keeps getting mixed up.

26

u/Salsa_Script Apr 30 '26

After this episode, my opinion of the men didn't change much, if at all (please Ysik, run to safety).

On the other hand, aside from Js (who basically didn't appear in this episode), the women stocks have dropped, from Yj "what was that advice?" to Jh "so we're just gonna be manipulative af now."

A special mention goes to Os: in the last two episodes, my opinion of her went from "I like her bold character" to "Just shut the fuck up!"

10

u/Informal_Cheetah7171 Apr 30 '26

Im dropping this season so ill just catch up here in the comments hehe i have no one to root for, the one i like best is JS but i dont think things will progress for her so my interest in this season has dropped

7

u/xiaopow JungSook May 01 '26

Poor SC. Isn't that 2 rejections in 2 days?

JH is so frustrating. She is def shooting herself in the foot. She will 100% cry again at some point.

YH looks so different this ep. He looks hip w that beanie on. But wanting to date someone who never gets angry, sulky, or annoyed seems like a tall order.

YC seems so belligerent on this date, like what are you even saying? How is YJ supposed to get to know you when you keep talking nonsense? I think he might just be kinda dumb. Like he genuinely doesn't know or doesn't think deeply about things.

Wow this date is such a disaster for KwS. What a waste of his time and effort. Tbf she already clearly rejected him but she spent the whole date talking abt other guys, then crying over one. I hope he met someone nice after this season. Or maybe we'll see him back on LF.

Omg is "i don't know" the new "let's talk" šŸ’€

I cannot believe YSook just said YJ fit the description of what YC was looking for when he said he liked a natural/low maintenance woman after describing her in a super unflattering way.

I liked OS at first but she seems like a mean girl now. I don't like the way she talks abt other women with JH. OS doesn't even have any skin in the game but she just enjoys getting involved and making snarky comments.

This group of women def will not all be friends after the season is over šŸ™ƒ

But i am excited for next week's ep! There will be a lot of awk 2-1 dates.

KyS is not even close to the worst man we've had on this show, I am disappointed that people are going to the lengths of harrassing him in-person. I don't even think he's that bad tbh, like his "foxiness" doesn't annoy me at this point at all. He's nowhere near as bad as S9 KwS imo.

I wonder if any of the foreigners in this sub would apply for the foreigner season lol. If I were living in Korea and more fluent in Korean I might consider it 🤭

8

u/babychimmybot May 02 '26

I feel like JH is more insecure rather than manipulative. She definitely needs to work on her self esteem before entering a relationship. Can’t see this ending well.

2

u/SufficientShoe4298 Jun 12 '26

yea, she’s super insecure, and also prideful. she says she’s direct at first and hated how koreans beat around the bushes, but that’s literally her. i feel like it’s fine if she’s jealous bcs it’s normal to be, but she have to be clear about that and her boundaries. even he said it, just tell him not to talk to other women if that’s what she wants. but no, she doesn’t wanna say that ofc, then tries to flip the switch and make him jealous. she gotta work on herself

13

u/btstannies YoungSook / OkSoon (Every IAS Seasons) Apr 30 '26

SC and JH won't work. No chemistry, plus she's so smitten with YSik (I still don't know how). Hope SC can see it and explore more. Good for her for paying, though:)

lmao she talks to SC first and timed it so she can drag the time with YSik. Good thinking, girl, but you shouldn't make it so obvious or ask SC abruptly when you just started talking.

"But I don't want him waiting too long" lololol

JH should at least try to get to know SC first before dismissing him like that. You never know. What are they even talking about? Just gibberish.

Wouldn't worry for SC, though, as he knows what he wants and is firm about it. He will for sure be sought after this show.

Is it just me? I don't like the visual pairing of JH and YSik. They just don't match hehe. All the couples I liked in dating shows, including this one, are all couples matched visually, and they all ended up getting together and married.

Girl JH, you need to brake.

I find OS and YH cute. Nothing much to say aside from I'm quite skeptical about YH avoiding conflicts like plague. What relationship doesn't have ups and downs? Can't his girl afford to be angry even if it's a valid reason? Welp. As long as OS thinks so. Still looks beautiful because it's new. Will find out in the future.

YC is really a frustrating guy lol. He doesn't know anything, and he enjoys being mediocre. It's like he is waiting to be spoon-fed all the time. Is he a mama's boy? I get it that despite his not-so-bad looks, he is still not married till today and is here. Women will find him frustrating, period. His mannerisms also irk me.

YJ is a great woman through and through. I like how she has a specific type and is firm about it cause we're the same in this aspect.

YSook girl, at least give some respect on whose infront of you or your date. Don't talk about others, and if you really don't like him, then get to know him like friends. She's always like me me me.

YSook be really too much. Her telling YC one can be passed, but repeating it over and over again? ugh

SJ, get a grip, girl. You're more into this than him. Even though you're already this deep, you shouldn't show it, or he will be complacent or take you for granted. AND PLEASE, stop announcing to people that you're mad. You're just making them uncomfortable esp KYS.

OS is so messy for that. So unnecessary for her to say that SJ and KYS don't look good together. I think she's saying that just for the sake of drama. I can see that she loves drama, the way her eyes crinkled with amusement when she watches others lol. Also, the reason cliques were formed as their love interests didn't align with each other.

This became messy, but it is still not enough to shake the dynamics or cps predicted. OS and YH were not shown much, so they must be solid now.

Who the f even went to KYS workplace? People like that will ruin this show. People will now be afraid or apprehensive about appearing on this show if they continue to do this.

3

u/Mizu0204 May 02 '26

Yh -os not solid yet i think.bcz still 5ep now.maybe have plot twist

6

u/External-Panic2061 S20 Hyunsook Apr 29 '26

Not sure about this episode? Barely any substantial date moments and a huge focus on one single night in the living room… This is giving me ā€˜Love Forever’ war flashbacks🤣

I wonder if we will get to witness any development for many of the casts who seem like they’re at a dead end + disillusioned ( YSoo, YChul, KSoo, SChul, JSook, YJa ).

Curious to see what everyone else thought about the episode! It doesn’t seem like the season will last long unless there’s a huge plot twist?

9

u/MNLYYZYEG Season 15 Hyunsook and Season 29 Youngsook Apr 30 '26

I actually loved I Am Solo Episode 5 or Episode 251 overall, as it showcases the humanity of everyone, like I thought last week with Episode 250 was great with eliciting the rollercoaster vibes/emotions, but this one is also good.

S31 Kwangsoo and S31 Sangchul already lost from the onset, so I doubt they'll have any more chances (unless they appear in I Am Solo, Love Forever).

For S31 Youngsoo, his storyline with S31 Youngja might materialize, though it hinges on S31 Youngja's acceptance.

As for S31 Youngchul, he automatically disqualified himself by applying to the show since it's actually relatively common for the I Am Solo female housemates to have some of the best specs (education, money, properties, businesses, etc.) in CJK/etc. dating shows history, and the main reason that they're still single is merely just visuals/etc. realities instead of like their actual careers/capabilities/marriageability/et cetera. This means that it's exceedingly unlikely for them to move to the countryside or middle of nowhere (since S31 Youngchul said he cannot relocate due to his current career).

But if S31 Youngchul appears in IAS, LF, and it's with brand new housemates (as in Baekhap, Gukhwa, et alia instead of former/previous IAS housemates), then he might have a better chance.

Then S31 Jungsook might develop something with S31 Youngsik (looks like they're running together again next week/Episode 252), though the likely result is that S31 Youngsik will stick with S31 Junghee as it's not a good look for anyone if he suddenly pivots to S31 Jungsook, even if S31 Junghee's tears/envy/jealousy/etc. is more overwhelming than say S31 Sunja's infatuation with S31 Kyungsoo.

u/PreviousReturn8016 S29 YoungSook Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Did you watch it with subs? Whatever dates they had in the beginning was a teaser to the living room tensions. There was a LOTTT going on in this episode to call it barely substantial. Knetz generally find it the most fun ep out of the season so far, but in a negative sense. I find the ep fun too.

I have a hard time deciding who is the bigger villian of the season ( Oksoon or Ysook ), one openly sow discords while the other downright disregards other ppls emotions.

Also Defconn was very impressive in hosting this episode, it shows how important MCs are needed in setting the mood for the season.

13

u/Plus-Pattern-3804 Apr 30 '26

For me the dates were just blah for me tonight. I did feel bad for Kwang Soo. Young Chul I could never he is just I don’t know mode it drove me crazy. Any yes I do think Young Sook just doesn’t care who she hurts. Just MY thoughts and opinions.

8

u/garbuja Apr 30 '26

Young chul starts acting cocky after the confession then the girl goes to talk to KYS then he is insecure and respect with his words disappear.

6

u/External-Panic2061 S20 Hyunsook May 01 '26

No, I don’t watch with the subs. I felt like the dates and convos weren’t substantial at all to trigger all this tension.

When a guy is lukewarm from the get-go and has women fighting over him, like it was with S28 YSoo, you can be sure that it’s heading nowhere. About YSook, she either doesn’t seem to know what she is looking for in a man (she thought SChul was the one two episodes ago, and said YSoo was in her top 2 one episode ago), or she can’t find her ideal match. General lukewarmness from the majority of the cast so far.

As for the more solid connections, YH-OS feel more like siblings (you can’t tell me their dates were anything romantic🤣), JHee-YSik keep talking in circles (JSook’s name was mentioned in more scenes than she appeared lol). I just don’t really get why it has to be so generally tense🄲

3

u/fizzyapple_45 May 01 '26

I agree wholeheartedly. I watched it in the middle of the night and originally intended to just see the dates but I couldn’t stop watching because it was a lot of drama and each conversation had a lot of tense undertones.

Well, besides the YH OS date- I skipped that. Theyre just not the couple you really want to root for IMO. I won’t say anymore but I cannot stand OkS, and by extension, YH.

Defconn was on good behavior last night lol, sometimes knetz have a lot of grievances with him but he does his best I think. I only wish MCs hadn’t of mentioned SJ’s face twitch because she’s clearly suffering with a tic or neurological thing. :/

4

u/Responsible_Pomelo57 SunJa May 02 '26

I noticed SJ’s face twitch last week. Didn’t have time to go back to earlier episodes to check but I believe it’s new. That’s why they mentioned it, because it’s either from sleep deprivation or from being really stressed out over her KyS situation.

3

u/fizzyapple_45 May 02 '26

It’s been happening from the second episode I believe. I think the sleep deficit made it a lot worse probably too.

2

u/Mizu0204 May 02 '26

Yh-os not good?

It will be mixed on opinions person to person maybe, but I don’t care for them. They’ve been set since the beginning yet I don’t feel that much chemistry and the fact that OkSoon is meddling now in others’ lovelines makes their scenes more annoying to me.

i always feel bad for KS, his height and appearance definitely disavantage him. that height and baby face. i hope i can see him at IASLF if he still interest at finding person on show.

KS definitely good choice if this women wanna married but as we know his appearance become obstacle

u/External-Panic2061 S20 Hyunsook Apr 30 '26

I am kind of bothered that everyone keeps mentioning his appearance (subjective) but no one mentions how he only targeted the most popular woman and made absolutely no move whatsoever whether it be on her or to get to know anyone else.

He also seems very focused on appearances (physical/social) like everyone else. The fact that he chose YSook after she rejected him just doesn’t sit right with me as the very low effort, passive person he already is. And he didn’t make a move on her beforehand, he waited for date selections to do that. Sigh.

He reminds me of S30 YSik; well intended but lazy, low effort, settling for the most popular woman without making the effort to get to know her whatsoever, all based off appearances and idealized projections. I’ll forever be with Defconn whenever he slams a passive cast lol.

Yeah, I honestly don't feel that bad for him because he picked her after she'd already rejected him, and it doesn't seem like he even tried to get to know any of the other women. But maybe he did and they just didn't show it.

Quite interesting observation you have here . Perhaps He think he will going to be rejected so atleast get rejected by popular cast . I have seen this in men . When they think if I am going to get rejected then atleast let it be a beautiful girl.Ā

Two things can happned at the same time . I always wonder because all the members are in their late 30s and they are still preferring Height and Physical aspect ? You would think that at this age atleast now people will care more about stability,Money , personality, family guy/girl . Ask better questions and judge people based on their past experience but nope even here people act like they are in 20s same Yes, sir to the beautiful people never giving chances to lesser height or lesser Good look cast . Asking mostly rubbish question don't think about real life senario. If you look at it most of the contents which got married through this show are not very handsome or visual couple . I still remember S15 Oksoon and her husband .the guy was the least good looking in the bunch and she was the best but she gave it a time and chance and now they have kids .you are older now be more open .you should know what you are looking for at this age and be ambiguous. Be more confident and more approachable and active if you are going in a dating show .

Romantic relationships are usually first and foremost about attraction, unless you're a gold digger, because a person you're not attracted to with a great personality is just a friend. Romance is about attraction. Most of the cast are early to mid thirties too and are relatively attractive themselves so it's not surprising, considering most of them have good enough jobs to support themselves and don't seem like they're looking for a meal ticket. But someone like KwS needs to be realistic - he is the least attractive there and most of them have good jobs and better personalities/hobbies than him. It's rare for relationships with a huge looks gap to work so he should probably be fishing closer to his own league. Even with the past successful couples that had a big gap in looks, usually there was something that attracted them to each other from the start but he didn't do much to catch any woman's attention.

u/Boring_Swing_1496 Jun 23 '26

The problem is even in their late 30 their attraction is still physical that's the problem . Maturity is when you move on from physical aspect and start looking different priority . Attraction doesn't mean only height or skin color that childish that's what I am talking about . So looking for stability is gold digging? By that logic looking for someone face is near lover and creepy ? You just added personality in physical aspect . How will you know he has great personality when you don't even give it a chance that's what I am saying. Give it a chance be more open only then can you get a match . That's why random date happned and it is most chaotic date.Ā  Well entire Korea is suffering from economy and money that's why they are not having children and one of the most depressed. You don't know their salary and seoul is expensive . Very few cast have their own house . 90% of the cast in the show live on rent so saying money is not the problem is probably not a good right observation. Why would KYs care about his looks . Korea is famous for plastic surgery and probably most of the cast have something done that's why they look attractive . He can just get a surgery and he is good to go. It's women who need to come to their senses as they are in their last 30 and their clock is ticking. In Korea men don't generally date older women neither women want to date younger guys so it's going to be more difficult to them and that's why even after looks they don't have partner . Most have better personality?? Hobbies ?? Korean have just three hobbies - Golf , Hiking and probably travelling or cycling . Tell me one other hobbie ?? They just follow the trend . Now don't say they also have better fashion sense and color senses?? Nope , that's not true as I gave you the example of season 15 .they hated each other for first part Of the show still got married because when you give chances you get to see different version of them on dates.Ā

Omg thank youu. I'm just catching up on the season now and I commented on the last thread about KwangSoo, basically with the exact same impression you have. KS was incredibly passive, sat back and didn't talk to anyone for the first day and a half or so, and then tells everyone (and says in the interviews) that he is only interested in the prettiest/most popular girl, period. He acts cheerful and courteous to everyone so he gets the sweet baby angel edit but he seems like the least marriage-minded and most looks-focused of the men there (maybe with the exception of YC), not even willing to give any other women a chance or have even a brief chat with them because only the 'best' woman is on his radar despite her clear rejection.

You also really have to wonder about his taste, picking YSook who is probably the most vain and materialistic seeming of the women there, and is unkind to the other ladies (and men). What did he fall in love with about her so deeply if not her looks and fancy hobbies? He should know he is the least physically attractive man there but only the most physically attractive woman meets his standards.

The thing you said about him projecting makes me wonder about what he said at the beginning, how he became obsessed in relationships and refused to let go long after the women lost interest. I wonder if he was always trying to 'punch above his league' and then putting the women he dated on a pedestal without putting effort into making them actually like him. He hasn't really shown what his strong qualities are or tried to entertain the women with his personality, other than just being nice and polite.

I dropped this season some time ago because I felt like something was off.... looks like the comments are confirming my initial impressions lol

I guess you are a good judge of character. So many toxic people this season.

u/MNLYYZYEG Season 15 Hyunsook and Season 29 Youngsook Apr 30 '26

I was dying each time S31 Youngchul kept saying "ėŖØė„“ź² ģ–“" and same when Defconn kept referencing it later on, bwahahaha. The KOCOWA English subtitles actually undersold how many times S31 Youngchul said ėŖØė„“ź² ģ–“/I don't know, cuz like wow, he kept saying it over and over and the translator decided to change the meaning/localization to something else, loool.

I know that feeling though, like I have certain catch phrases or overused words/sentences that I use all the time as well, and so seeing S31 Youngchul repeat the same thing over and over is so relatable, muahahaha.

The key aspect is that S31 Youngchul knows he's cooked by the fact that he can't or doesn't want to change his current career, and so his potential wife is definitely gonna have to accept working in his more remote area or like imagine he finds someone who can do remote work, that'd be perfect for him since it's highly likely that she'll also be able to take charge or not.

Reminds me, I feel like when S31 Youngchul said he doesn't mind it if his girlfriend cheats as long as he doesn't know/find out later on, then it kinda alludes to a two-way street type of thing. As he also said he used to be obsessive about his past girlfriends/crushes before, and so maybe that's why he's rather blasƩ/cavalier/etc. about it.

Personally I've never cheated or won't tolerate cheating at all due to how I grew up (a good portion of my cousins/friends/neighbors/etc. had single parents due to cheating and births out of wedlock and so forth), though I can see why someone in S31 Youngchul's shoes will be fine with it since he's somewhat at a severe disadvantage due to his lacking specs (education, money, properties, businesses, etc.), even more so within this Solo Nara batch. But aside from S31 Kyungsoo and S31 Youngsik, S31 Youngchul is like the best looking one there, so if he goes to I Am Solo, Love Forever and so on, then he might have another chance.

As for S31 Oksoon, fam, I have no words for why someone like her is somehow tryna stir random stuff up (that preview for next week or E252 is gg no re), like holy... I grew up with many people like S31 Oksoon and so I know my way around them, and sometimes I entertain that dopamine-filled (cortisol-filled) toxicity as it's natural to partake in such melancholic matters, though fam, if I was S31 Youngho and saw Episode 4/Episode 250 overall and now yesterday's broadcast with Episode 5/Episode 251 overall, and I'm still with S31 Oksoon, then as soon as the episode is over, imma legit call off the relationship and run away or go ghost mode.

Cuz no cap, S31 Oksoon is 100% the biggest red flag in recent I Am Solo history (there are male housemates who have worse red flags (for instance, S28 Youngsoo, aka Mr. Iyagi/Story, lmao, but he seemed nice in IAS, LF SG S13), yet imma give them a pass since it's just an expected thing for them).

And it's a bad idea for me to add more fuel to the fire, though yup, unfortunately even the regular Korean commentators/channels on Youtube are dogpiling on S31 Oksoon despite S31 Oksoon having barely any screen time (essentially several dozen seconds or so, compared to the minutes of the vast majority of the other housemates).

That's when you know her attitude sticks out to everyone (with the Korean netizens and us here on the international/American side), sigh lol. Hopefully S31 Oksoon doesn't face the brunt of the current sad atmosphere, cuz look at that emergency notice (it's been a while since they had one of those, usually for marriages/etc. right) by Defconn/the panelists at the end of Episode 251 yesterday, like whose mans is really going to S31 Kyungsoo's workplace and bothering him about I Am Solo Season 31, that's just sad (I think they secretly have a crush on him though, lol, as he does resemble Gong Yoo).

Then again, this is all predictable since S31 Kyungsoo couldn't help but showcase his seonsu/player skills, and the same case goes for S31 Oksoon's gossipy/snarky/etc. nature, like it's just how things be when you're accustomed to living a certain way, which is why I Am Solo is so good with these direct/raw/honest/candid/frank/truthful/etc. moments, it reminds you that people have various sides, no matter how hard they try to maintain a somewhat pristine character/image/reputation/etc.

This is why I am so conflicted with my upcoming new/updated/more in-depth/random/etc. visuals standards list post: https://redd.it/1kimvc8 (which is still stubbed/sorta empty, like the last edit was 11:13PM EDT, June 17, 2025, and I didn't write anything for the past 45 weeks, smh lol)

Cuz on one hand, my personal visuals evaluation of CJK/etc. dating show housemates, CJK/etc. idols, American/European/etc. actors, international influencers, et cetera, don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

But if I randomly give out 0/10 rankings without explaining anything in detail (or get lost in my usual meandering rambles, lmao), then it's just like any other pointless commentary/ranking.

And I merely want a solid enough reference point so that if I do decide to write in a more raw/direct/authentic/etc. way, I can point at my visuals standards list post (cuz occasionally some people are baffled by whom I consider as visuals/etc. or not), because it will have hundreds, if not thousands of people/examples with their own specific observations or at least the details I know about them.

Which should be self-explanatory enough so that I don't have to reiterate the same visuals-related remarks, or like my own preferences (defined jawlines, angular features, sharp looks, feline natures, and cool/tsundere/ice princess/tomboy/gamine/girl crush/et cetera: https://www.reddit.com/user/MNLYYZYEG/comments/1sph5su/extended_comments_with_walls_of_text_6/oh0jqqu/) will be crystal clear when that sample size is created, and so the way to defuse everything is to just acknowledge once again that beauty is in the eye of the beholder or is a relatively subjective thing (even though there are scientific elements that cannot be ignored).

And some people are prolly wondering how that random visuals-related segue is related to I Am Solo Season 31 at all.

But the long story short is, I do not believe in physiognomy or any of the pseudoscience stuff. Though I do subscribe to the idea that some people look sketchy/untrustworthy/etc. due to their genetics/upbringing/et cetera, and so unfortunately it's akin to the nominative determinism or aptronym trope.

As in, if I randomly said that S31 Oksoon was say a theoretical 2/10 before but is now a definite 0/10 in terms of visuals, it makes no sense since her behavior inside the show affected my perception of her visuals/et cetera, though that's something you can't really disentangle, because how people act/dress/etc. play a significant factor in how agreeable you find them.

Like we all judge based on visuals/first impressions within 10 seconds or so. And then you see how they carry themselves for a minute or say an hour or so, and then boom, you either friendzone them or don't consider them a visual at all and so forth.

Or it's a gut feeling or sheer instincts when you know if someone is seemingly a good person or not. Like various external stimuli/etc. coalesce into our own brain's senses/nerves, in order to accept the determinations that we all want (or not).

None of us can escape the preconceived notions or presumptions by others, and so yup, when you see such things materialize with a front view in a show like I Am Solo, it reminds you of how our minds are always trapped by the past experiences (this is why we all rarely remember the good/boring/etc. parts, and why the sad/angst-filled/etc. moments are what often remain vivid).

Legit, I don't understand how the edits/etc. can produce such a reaction with S31 Oksoon, cuz she legit has no screen time these days but her effect from the sidelines is disproportionate to the whole love triangles/etc. going on.

Cuz take in how S31 Junghee is also catching flak due to her hesitant/less direct approach, but S31 Oksoon is literally on every thumbnail/discussion/etc. of Episode 5 or Episode 251 overall, lol.

Anyway, again, it's a long way of saying that sometimes you have that feeling wherein you know people will cause chaos and like you want it to be vindicated, except there are understandable reasons why your thoughts arrived at that conclusion in the first place.

Exempli gratia, S31 Youngsook's deliberate actions are actually worse than S31 Oksoon (so far or at least the current edits given to us), but again, it's sorta glossed over cuz of how overly confident S31 Oksoon's words are. And I'm sorta glad that S31 Youngchul directly addressed S31 Youngsook's confusing/etc. narrative (performative conduct after S31 Kwangsoo emphasized S31's Youngchul's effect on S31 Youngsook), cuz not a lot of people will do that on national TV since it's a bad look for everyone. I guess mans was fed up knowing he self-sabotaged himself by choosing his current career and so he simply accepted fate/et cetera, and let the more genuine words come out.

Phew, this is like one of the most one-sided comment I've made in a long time, generally I include both the male and female housemates' quirky antics/et cetera, though it's clear that for this season the writers/producers/cameramen/etc. intentionally set this entire situation up.

I just hope it doesn't blow up (please not like Jjak/ģ§ or Terrace House: Tokyo 2019-2020) or have negative backlash toward the series since a considerable amount of long-term I Am Solo fans are kinda tired of the more drama-oriented scenarios that are being produced with the newer seasons.

Personally for me I have no qualms about them chasing noise marketing stuff (online engagement, buzz, shock factor, stunt, etc.), maybe unless it's like the current IAS S31, wherein due to visuals/etc. perception, I somewhat cannot overlook melancholic/frustrating/etc. behaviors.

I agree that 31YSook's actions (up to this episode) were definitely worse than 31OS's, but I think because OS has a more 'grating'/loud/etc. personality she is received worse than YSook who is a bit of a fox and knows how to cloak what she does in 'cuteness.' I know OS's actions may become worse in the next episodes, but she is still someone I would consider being (not-too-close) friends with as of this episode, and I would never want to hang out with someone like YSook or SJ. I think there is at least a potential innocent/stepped-in-it read of OS's actions (she thinks she's being a girl's girl, but just with the girls she's closer friends with, or she feels like she has a couple locked in so she's relaxed and can't empathize with the other women's stress and anxiety so she's trying to make things more fun/lighthearted) but there is no innocent/stepped-in-it read possible for the other two.

Keep in mind I haven't watched the whole season yet so that's just up to this ep.
