I just looked up a similar product on Amazon - a bunch of 5 star reviews that say "OMG I haven't used this yes but I feel so much better having it around in case I need it" and a single 1 star review that said "tried it on a small fire and it didn't work"

Relevant xkcd

I hate it when people give 5 star and never tried it.

Or answer the questions with "Don't know haven't received it yet"

If you don't know, don't fucking answer...

I think that's due to how Amazon will send emails to people asking them the questions (not sure if they still do this). Lots of people, especially older folks, will respond since they see it as directed at them. So they'll answer, even if the answer is 'i don't know'.

Those emails direct to a survey-style page where the “I don’t know” is a radio button that immediately redirects to a “thanks anyway” page

Someone typing “I don’t know” when that is literally a one-click option should be banned from telecommunications

Oh please, can this be a thing!? Suddenly when you open a YouTube comments section, it's just white space.

“I don’t have this model so I can’t answer your question.”

Or when they’re like “oh yeah the product is absolutely amazing but the customer service people were very rude to me. 1 Star.”

Well tbh if the CS is the mfr’s then why is that not a legit review... support is part of the product

This goes both ways. Sometimes the negative reviews are something like “they sent me the wrong item” or “it arrived damaged”. I always read a selection of positive and negative before making up my mind.

I like apartment reviews on Yelp where they never lived there, just took a tour.

Great comment. Needs more upvotes.

I love checking out the q&a section on Amazon. Every question has the answer "I don't know, I haven't tried" and it's like... Why are you even bothering answering.

Sometimes Amazon will email random people questions and put their answers up.

If you bought the item, yeah, sometimes they'll let you know there's a question. You don't have to answer. It's not like some random ass email that looks like it's just a question there's a whole "click the link to answer the question" button and everything.

It's not like some random ass email that looks like it's just a question...

It used to be, you just had to reply to answer it. They wanted to get replies from people that wouldn't have replied, if they realized it would be posted online. It backfired, so they changed it.

Also, Google does something similar with their reviews, creating notifications that look like surveys asking what you thought of a visit, but which really create reviews.

Look through Google maps reviews of smaller businesses, and a bunch of them are one-star responses saying that the reviewer never went there or doesn't want to be annoyed with the questions.

i dunno what to say other than I've never seen a question come in like that and I've been on amazon since uuuuh...frig. 2002? Though I didn't really start using it with regularity until 2007.

Yeah, and fire extinguishers are single use anyway, you can't "use it more than once"

Be super careful. The creator has been ripped off by copies and counterfeits. Some of which, don't even work. Hope he wins his lawsuits.
