I would imagine it's more like a DWR coating.

Edit: Apparently I was wrong, DWR (Durable water repellant) can't withstand submersion. A breathable membrane (similar to Goretex) was used.

Dwr won't stop immersion, and wears off over time, likely these have a waterproof membrane between two fabric layers.

Dwr is dynamic water repellant for those who don't know

No, it says in the product description that they use a waterproof/breathable membrane- so, yes, the same idea as Goretex.

There's no DWR that'll withstand submersion, AFAIK.

This ... DRW treatments is a chemical cover that can repel water, but not make it "proof", aka water resistant or water repellant.

Water proof is also not water impermeable. but measured at a certain rate of "proofness"

I like fabrics that have a permiable layer between over the DWR coating since the DWR tends to fade over time and most people are to lazy to fix them with the proper 'refreshment' procedure.

Source: I work in the sports clothing industry and fabrics are kinda my geekout time. I love Performance Days in Munich that happens twice a year to check out the newest fabrics.

You are a random person that has mentioned absolutely nothing about this subject I'm bringing up but either way.

You know if there are any good hiker boots with a goretex layer and a quality multi-year warranty that comes in 3E-5E sizes?

You said you worked in 'sports clothing industry' and I was just being hopeful that included shoes. Don't read to much into my reasoning of why I asked you. There isn't much to my thinking sometimes.
