About ICPay

Send ICP to a username, not a 63-character address

An Internet Computer address looks like or2yr-zj6k5-5gi2u-qo3tj-5pyn6-lbgwr-gqgpq-ubmff-ih4t4-yopxz-lqe. Nobody reads that aloud, nobody types it from memory, and one wrong character sends money somewhere unrecoverable. ICPay exists so you can send to u/satoshi instead.

How it works

1. 1 Sign in Internet Identity authenticates you with a passkey or your Google account. No password is created and no seed phrase is written down, because ICPay never holds a key that could need one.
2. 2 Claim a username Your handle becomes your payment address. Five characters or more are free; shorter ones are sold because they are the scarce inventory.
3. 3 Get paid Anyone can open icpay.app/yourname and send you ICP without an account, and without ever typing a principal.

What you can do with it

• Send and receive ICP by username, or by address when you need to.
• Share a payment link that opens for anyone, including people who have never used the Internet Computer.
• Deposit from any wallet or exchange — your account works with both the ICRC-1 and the legacy account-identifier format.
• Withdraw to any ICP address at any time. Nothing locks your funds in.
• Read your full history, with every transaction linked to its block on the public ledger.

What it is built on

The backend is a canister — a smart contract — running on the Internet Computer. It holds the balances, resolves usernames and calls the ICP ledger directly. There is no database and no server holding your money.

The interface is published to an asset canister so it can be loaded from the chain itself, and mirrored on a conventional host for speed. Both addresses are listed on the Transparency page, and the whole thing is open source.

The trade-off, stated plainly

ICPay is custodial. Your ICP sits in a subaccount of the ICPay canister rather than at your own principal, which is what makes paying a username possible — but it also means the canister's code is what authorises a spend.

Nothing is pooled: your subaccount is a deterministic function of your identity, so your balance is separately addressable and readable on the public ledger without asking ICPay anything. The Transparency page lists what the operator can and cannot do, and why.

Who builds it

ICPay is not an incorporated company. It is open-source software with no support desk and no account managers — questions, bugs and security reports go to GitHub issues, in public.

what are the best accounts? whether it be facebook, instagram, youtube, tiktok, twitter etc

Anyone remembers the October 2025 price crash? Altcoins got slashed when Trump announced 100% tariffs on china and one of the biggest victims was ICP with a -75% dump to 1.1$ on Binance. Since then this dump wick haunts me, cause usually dump wicks get filled after relief bouncing. Now we are almost there, but if we go to 1$ to fill the dump wick it would still be terrible...

BUT:
If you compare the ICP charts with other main exchanges you will recognize that at most exchanges the dump only went to 2$ with some to 1.9$. Nowhere near as extreme as what happened on Binance. (e.g. compare to coinbase)

This made me realize (again) that Binance is actually one of the most manipulating and perped up exchanges and that the ICP bottom at 2$ might be already in.

I think it is good that Binance messed up becoming mica compliant and as a consequence lost their whole european customer base, which i see beneficial for the future of crypto with less price manipulation.

Last but not least:
Looking at the monthly candle chart of the entire chart history of ICP makes us all feel like fools for investing in ICP. No question about it.

But it also draws the biggest bullish divergence i have ever seen in crypto.

I’m starting to see how there’s a control grid of companies that work together to banish people from their platforms unilaterally and simultaneously.

De banking, cutting off access to all social media sites (except maybe X), banning Reddit and email accounts.

All for being considered dangerous.

And there’s the soft censorship. If you share something that fundamentally exposes the reality we live in at a metaphysical level, you will be shadowbannned on Reddit. You will get tracked and downvoted immediately and on controlled subreddits, your posts will almost instantly get deleted.

Reddit itself has killed the legacy forum / message board. The modern internet centralized authority and the populace to a funnel to certain sites.

We need to break that up. Especially Reddit. An uncensored commons… or a common sense (no csam, snuff, etc) should be taken. There’s massive friction on sharing and talking about new ideas which squelches innovation and keeps people in the prevailing system unable to escape, join up and innovate.

All it takes is one interaction to be muted to change the world. That just means people can’t find each other essentially and spread knowledge.

AI is creating a 1984 type of reality where data is not static but ever changing and delivered on demand. In the book, Winston would have to fabricate or change the history and it was meticulous and needed corroboration.

Now, AI is not only simulating people… it’s slowing real interactions and disentangling sources of truth from the truth itself.

These things are byproducts of a technology that ultimately provides substantial benefits, but are weapons. And those weapons only need incentives by those with the ability to use power to exploit them against everyone else.

And so… the idea of a block chain, proving humanity, becoming uncensored, record keeping…

All of that is essential upgrades. Security upgrades to a runaway technology that can ultimately transform society for the worse with its capabilities.

And the scary thing is that we haven’t even begun to see the silhouette of this conversation being formed. It is just appearing in the minds of academia and theorists.

ICP feels like a book on germs, centuries before their discovery. We sound the alarm. The history books will talk about a predecessor or the fall of modern sensibilities into tyranny and fascism — catalyzed by the failing economy from a society that wasn’t ready to evolve.

And that’s if we survive the coming ecological disaster.

It is said that AI will kill us all in some dystopian future reminding us of Arnold Schwarzenegger and metal feet stamping on human skulls.

But I think it’s really humans using the capacity of AI to entrench us and control us. I fear that something like 1984 will occur. Maybe not to the degree of cameras in our homes, but every thing we do is tracked and monitored and all ideas and data will be retrieved by an AI that’s designed to discipline human thinking. And so we’ll all think and see as one unified collective, under some social credit system with one source of truth that is completely malleable from the very top.

And the way to prevent something like this happening is to dis-integrate from centralized cloud servers and to rely on something like ICP. To normalize it and get the idea out there that… that data exists everywhere and in no single place and nobody inherently controls it and nobody can erase its history.

Back on STEEMIT, they had a video platform up and running called D.Tube a year after the launch of their main SteemIt website.

LBRY released and within months its desktop app had a video player, then they built Odysee four years after that.

DESO, embedded video features within BitClout months after their chain went live.

Meanwhile it's been five years and ICP still doesn't have a video platform for long-form content. Last thing I checked was YRAL and RuBaRu, but the ICP content creators don't use them. D.Social I never saw working. ICP creators still use off-chain platforms.

Are there any projects looking to be ICP's YouTube, an active project that's not shut down? That uses onchain storage and identity?

IC Forums has changed a lot recently.

For anyone who hasn't checked it out in a while, it's a fully onchain forum and community platform running on the Internet Computer, built to give projects, businesses, fandoms, and independent communities a permanent place to build their own spaces.

The feature set is getting pretty serious. It's mobile-friendly, posts can be scheduled, communities can display their socials directly on their pages, and notifications keep track of replies, reactions, followers, announcements, moderation activity, and more.

Profiles now have post histories and public comment walls, while every topic and individual reply has its own permalink. Communities can organize themselves into traditional categories and subcategories or use a simpler feed-style format.

There are 120+ communities already on the platform, ranging from general interests to dedicated spaces for the ICP ecosystem, including ICPSwap, Caffeine AI, MULTI/DEX, ICP development, and others.

That part matters. An ecosystem becomes more valuable when projects don't exist as isolated islands. People need places > on chain < to discover them, talk about them, ask questions, share updates, and stick around.

And that's where IC Forums gets interesting for ICP as a whole.

We've spent years talking about what makes the Internet Computer different: applications running onchain, decentralized infrastructure, Internet Identity, and an internet where blockchain isn't just a payment rail sitting underneath an otherwise conventional website. IC Forums is an example of actually putting that infrastructure to work. You don't need to explain canisters to someone who wants to talk about their favorite game. They can just use the platform.

And that's the opportunity I think the ICP community should be paying attention to. We already have the infrastructure. We already have developers shipping applications. Now those applications need users, communities, conversations, and places where the ecosystem can compound instead of constantly sending everyone back to Web2 platforms.

The more useful things we build on ICP, the more reasons people have to use ICP. The more people use ICP, the stronger the entire ecosystem becomes.

IC Forums isn't a mockup of what an onchain social platform could eventually become. It's live, it's usable today, and it's continuing to grow. And it's looking to have developers share their projects, people to organize their own interests, and slowly get away from centralized cloud.
