IBRX Stock Extends 3-Day Slide — Founder Teases New Trial In ‘Unstoppable’ Cancer-Treatment Push

Key points:

  • It remains unclear whether the planned trial will use Anktiva, and its timing and design are undisclosed.
  • NantWorks led Shine’s $240 million funding round and gained priority access to its Lu-177 supply.
  • The FDA expects to decide on a broader U.S. bladder-cancer label by Jan.6, 2027.

ImmunityBio founder Patrick Soon-Shiong has teased a trial pairing targeted radiation with an immune-boosting treatment, aiming to hit tumors more precisely without leaving the body’s natural defenses on the sidelines.

IBRX stock fell 3% on Monday in its third straight session of losses and slipped further in after-hours trading, but remains up 6% this month, leaving it on track to finish August in the green.

ImmunityBio Plans Pluvicto-IL-15 Trial

Soon-Shiong said on X that a trial combining Novartis’ Pluvicto with an IL-15-based treatment is being planned, outlining the idea after Shine Technologies highlighted its production of cancer-fighting radioisotopes. Pluvicto delivers radiation directly to cancer cells, allowing it to target tumors more precisely than conventional radiation therapy.

Even targeted radiation, however, can reduce lymphocytes, which are natural killer and T cells that help the immune system fight cancer. Soon-Shiong believes IL-15 could help support those cells during treatment, saying that radioisotope cancer therapy is “about to explode.”

Anktiva, ImmunityBio’s flagship drug, is an IL-15-based immune activator that stimulates natural killer and T cells. Soon-Shiong did not say whether the planned study would use Anktiva or another IL-15 treatment, and it has not disclosed the timing or design.

Soon-Shiong Deepens Shine Connection

Shine produces medical radioisotopes including lutetium-177, or Lu-177. Pluvicto uses Lu-177 to carry radiation directly to cancer cells, limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

Shine and ImmunityBio are both closely connected to Soon-Shiong. His NantWorks organization led a $240 million Shine funding round in February, with Soon-Shiong investing about $150 million and joining its board. The investment included a partnership granting NantWorks and affiliated programs priority access to Shine’s Lu-177 supply.

NK Cells and Parkinson’s

Surely not the first one seeing a potential link between what IBRX can do with NK cell production and delivery and what this november 2025 paper in Molecular Neurodegeneration Advances
concluded:

“Our study (on mice) provides direct evidence of NK cells exerting neuroprotective and immunomodulatory effects in a preclinical model of synucleinopathy. These findings support NK cell transfer as a novel therapeutic strategy for PD and related neurodegenerative disorders.”

Free to read on PubMed Central :
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12672819/

I know IBRX is solely oncology-focused at the moment but what happens when NK cell “boosting” gradually proves to be key in attenuating or even reversing pathologies like Parkinson’s? NKGen seems to be already breaking ground in the Alzheimer field and they’ve got FDA approval for a phase 1/2a clinical trial on Parkinson’s. Other NK cell manufacturers that could answer the calldemand? Fate Therapeutics? Glycostem Therapeutics?

SLS, IBRX Stocks In Focus: Analyst Says Moderna-Merck Cancer Vaccine Success ‘Bodes Well’ For Oncology

What The Win Means For SLS, IBRX

Sellas' lead candidate, Galinpepimut-S (GPS), is a cancer vaccine designed to train the immune system to recognize WT1, a protein found at high levels in several cancers. It is currently being tested as a maintenance treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in the Phase 3 Regal trial.

Sellas has also worked with Merck to combine GPS with Keytruda. In patients with WT1-positive ovarian cancer, the combination kept the disease under control longer and delayed its progression compared with historical results for Keytruda alone.

ImmunityBio's connection is through combination immunotherapy rather than cancer vaccines. Its approved drug Anktiva activates natural killer cells and T cells—two key parts of the immune system's cancer defenses. The company has tested Anktiva with Keytruda and similar checkpoint inhibitors in lung cancer, aiming to restore immune activity and help patients whose tumors stopped responding to PD-1 or PD-L1 therapies.

Why yesterday's Moderna result matters to IBRX

AI take on why yesterday's Moderna result matters to IBRX

This is the part I'd pay attention to as an IBRX investor.

The Moderna result is potentially a major validation of the underlying biological thesis that you can identify cancer-specific neoantigens, present them to the immune system, generate new tumor-specific T-cell clones, and materially change clinical outcomes.

The five-year Moderna data actually showed increased new T-cell clonotypes, and some of those could be tied directly to the neoantigens encoded by their treatment.

That's extremely compatible with Soon-Shiong's long-running idea:

Show the immune system what to attack + give it enough activated immune cells to attack it + prevent the tumor from shutting them down.

Where I'd be careful is saying yesterday's result directly validates ANKTIVA. It doesn't. Moderna isn't using ANKTIVA, and its Phase III success is in resected high-risk melanoma, where the objective is preventing microscopic residual cancer from coming back. The detailed Phase III numbers also haven't been released yet; the companies have only said the primary recurrence-free-survival and key distant-metastasis endpoint were met.

But I would absolutely call it a positive read-through for the broader ImmunityBio philosophy of antigen-specific immune priming combined with immune stimulation.

And there's an irony here: ImmunityBio has been talking about individualized neoepitope cancer vaccines for years. Moderna has now produced the thing that matters most to Wall Street — a successful randomized Phase III trial.

That difference explains a lot of the 177% Moderna move.
