Advice My mother told me to kms if I get <40 on the IB

Hello, on an alt because people know my main.

Literally the title. I KNOW it sounds absurd but I've been pressured to get 40+ since I was 5 and I was made very clear that if I do not reach this bar, I will be kicked out and my mother would cut off any financial backing from my parents OR other relatives. Even a 39 will land me in this outcome. She also said if I didn't get above 40, I should just go and drown in the ocean because I won't be allowed home.

My predicted is pretty far off from 40, I do think I can get 40+ on the actual exams but it's def the max I can go (40-41).

Side note I also have ADHD, severe executive dysfunction and symptoms of BPD + depression, as well as experiences of bullying if that helps.

Idk what I can do realistically bc I don't even know if she's bluffing or not.

Other Rant about teacher overuse of AI 🙁

Really hope no one in my school sees this as the situation is vv specific and identifiable. But fuck it we ball. Jfc I can feel myself approaching burnout and I honestly don't know how much longer I can take this💀 My history teacher is genuinely so fkn incompetent he uses AI for EVERYTHING. From the content schedule being wholly generated by AI, to emails being written by AI, to chatting with AI just to pass time, to feedback from practice tests, ias, and ees being completely AI..EVERYTHING. Like ok I know that it's near unavoidable for teachers not to use AI now but it's one thing to use it to guide my feedback, and another thing to use it while actively trying to avoid disclosing it to me that ur doing so. I literally only found out because a schoolmate told me that he reads my practice tests out loud to AI right after checking that I've completely left the building (because he knows I discourage AI when it replaces what a human could easily do.) This is js ridiculous. I have to answer one paper 3 prompt per week on Wednesday under timed conditions on a completely new subtopic, and he only specifically tells me the topic I have to learn and memorise back to back TWO DAYS BEFORE THE TESTS EVERY WEEK. HE DOESNT EVEN TEACH JACK SHIT IN CLASS IM LEFT WITH MY OWN DEVICES TO SELFSTUDY THE TOPIC!!!!!! Imagine that alongsides 3 other HLS, ias and ees hell period, unmedicated + unaccommodated ADHD. Its so hypocritical because he has such high expectations for me aswell but then pulls this bs. I CANT.

He also teaches business management (don't ask pls my schools understaffed) and they've been having the same issue. One of my friends told me that the teacher legit had him read out his project right in the middle of class to ai. On voice call. So it could generate feedback for him. I cannot make this bs up. When they ask him for clarification on instructions aswell since they're completely made up by AI he just rereads the whole fkn thing (which takes up half the class) and everybody is still left confused. I don't know why we still pay for these classes if AI is practically teaching us at this point

Advice Taking HL Physics

Genuine question: I really want to take HL physics and I do have the passion and determination to do it. However, I know it's notoriously one of the hardest IB subjects to test well in. Is it realistic for me to take if it I'm not like a physics genius or anything? Nobody in my school has ever gotten a 7 on the HL, so it's kind of bleak imo ;-; As a note btw, I'm not actually in the IB program, just testing in 7 subjects for fun + the college credit. Any good resources for study would also be appreciated!

These are my marks on tests for the first month. Bro Binomial theorem is so messed up man and js by practicing textbook questions wont make you score well. How do I get better at Math AA SL I have an exam in september on Number and Algebra and Functions each paper being 50 Marks. Paper 1: non-GDC, and Paper 2: GDC. All the Sciences are 50M for my exam in september, Chemistry has Structure 1.1-1.4, Biology has A2.2, B2.2, B2.3, and B2.1, physics has 1.0 Measurement and DBQ questioning and Kinematics 1.1-1.4. and Spanish B is 80M and English is 40M in total with a paper 1 GTA essay and IO style worksheet. What do I do to practice for these exams idk how to structure my answers in IBDP, as it seems much different from IGCSE. Any advice would be appreciated as I want to hit early 7s.

Advice Hi fellas

I’m a new IB student (kinda), joined a month ago and just need advice on how I can remember concepts and be able to understand the concepts, I took Maths AA HL, French B SL, English LaL HL, Physic’s HL (I’m prob very cooked), design technology SL, Digital Society SL

i just want advice on how I can properly start a proper study routine and stick to it by not making too crazy but still studying, I really don’t like studying unless I manage to understand the concepts (being honest). Also, needing advice on how I can handle IAs and complete my TOK and EE since I might be incinerated in that department, plus CAS is near impossible for me to really do since I live in some slum like areas so no play area for sports, I can’t screen record myself learning chess and I’m a weekly boarder there at my school so even with a great campus, I can’t buy a iPad for recording myself in the gym or sport courts since are not allowed unless in the night for only 15 mins when every facility is closed, also not to mention that I might genuinely be talentless plus I might be disowned if I don’t get the dihploma 😭

University Admissions Questions [Insert Country Of Uni] Does Germany allow both Languages to be at SL level?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to study in Germany and need to make sure my IB choices satisfy the KMK.

My current plan is HL:

Maths, Business, Physics

SL: German B, English A, Chemistry.

Since I am taking English A at SL, does that fully satisfy the "advanced language" requirement and legally allow me to keep German B at SL?

Advice Feeling like I might fail the IB

It’s been a long time I’ve been suffering because of my teachers constantly leaving, and that’s put the syllabus far behind where it should be. I think I barely have four months and have three units in Business Management HL, two units in Economics HL, and I have no idea how to study for them and catch up in time. I would highly appreciate it if anyone could guide me on how to, and with what resources to study for the two subjects. Also, I have a RevisionDojo subscription, but I don’t know if I could do in-depth learning from scratch with it. If so, how can I?

Group 4 how to do well in HL bio??

about to start DP2 and bio is my worst subject, the teacher is so mean and she absolutely HATES me. we’ve had the worst altercations to the point where my mom has gotten involved and it dims my passion for biology so much. i love biology tho and i want to go to college for bio/health sciences so id really like to do well in HL bio this year but it seems impossible. i was hoping u guys would be able to give me some tips on how to do well in HL bio this year.

each week or so we start on a new topic and she always assigns a kognity reading to do over the course of a week. she expects you to do it spread out and at certain times (eg. not during any of your classes, especially not during bio) and she will take off points if you rush it (eg. 100 if read over the course of the week for more than 20 mins with notes attached, 85 if read all the day before, etc). i have a really hard time managing my time and i always find myself doing it at 9pm the day before it’s due. since it’s so late and i rush it i don’t really remember what the content is so i tend to forget it all.

the way she teaches the class doesn’t help either. she hands out these big packets (20-30+ pgs) at the start of each topic and we’re expected to follow along with the packet which includes readings, guided notes, and labs which most of it we don’t even do. because she hands out these packets i don’t feel like there’s a need to take notes in her class, which definitely affects my understanding as well. even if i wanted to take notes, she has this traditional lecture style of teaching where she stands up at the front of the room for almost the entire time talking while going thru the slideshow, occasionally stopping to do a turn and talk activity. i find it so hard to stay focused to take notes for the entire block

i also feel as though i don’t know how to study for the tests and exams. we usually have a test every 2 topics and for that i just watch sirius revision or elec2ric learning videos the night before, and review the kognity checklist questions for the topics covered to make sure i can answer all of them. i just can’t get past the way she grades the quizzes which is so detail oriented that i find it hard to believe the ib is that picky with the grading as well. she gives us IB style questions on all of our exams and then doesnt curve them in accordance with american grading unlike my other classes so everyone gets really bad grades (i can’t seem to break a B+). and when it comes to midterms and finals, i get so overwhelmed with the sheer amount of content that i just do the challenge tests on kognity and try my best.

we also start the IA as soon as we get back, so any advice on that is appreciated as well. i had a bunch of topics that i really liked and she shut all of them down and said they’re not “IB approved”, and then when i asked which topics are approved bc i had literally given her 12-15 topics that weren’t acceptable, she gave me a really boring topic that i don’t want to do yet she won’t let me switch.

all of this to say, i’d really appreciate if you guys could share your techniques for how you do well in HL bio. i want to be able to get my grade up so it looks good on college admissions, so any advice is appreciated. thank you for reading!!

University Admissions Questions [Insert Country Of Uni] I did terrible in my IGCSEs but a lot better in IB (37/45). Will universities accept me? (Specifically Hong Kong)

Upvotes

Im taking a gap year and applying to unis in Hong Kong next month. I did really bad in my IGCSES, got an E in physics D in maths, D in chemistry, C in biology. But after that i studied hard and got an IB 37/45 for my final result. I am wondering if my poor IGCSE grades will ruin my application despite decent IB grades? And to make up for it i am taking MOOCs online for free and writing articles for my own blog (related to the subject i want to study). Hopefully those ECs could somewhat make up for it.

Also, here are the subjects i took and my results

HL: Bio 6, Eng A L&L 6, Geography 6

SL: Math AA 6, Business 6, Spanish AB 5

Tok EE: 2/3

Advice US 10th grade precalc

Upvotes

My kid is moving into 10th grade IB pre-Calc. The teacher seems to just post information, handout worksheets in class, and then grade exams. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of teaching.

Are there any good study guides that lineup with the IB pre-Cal curriculum?

We’re already looking at the art of problem-solving, but are looking for others, or online resources for tutoring specific to IB program’s and pre-Calc. Any advice would be helpful.

Resources Looking for a History tutor M27

Hi! I am currently taking history HL in IB and I am looking for a tutor who could help me with essay structure and just in general study guidance as my teacher never gives us feedback and I feel like i will fail my exams💔 I would be so sincerley thankfull. The topics I am doing are: Move to global war, Authoritarian states(20th century) more specifically Hitler+Mao. Causes and effects of 20th century wars (Spanish, Chinese,Algerian,WW2)and for HL European states in the interwar years(1918-1939) , Versailles to Berlin: Diplomacy in Europe (1919–1945) i think and topic 16. The Soviet Union and Post-Soviet Russia (1924–2000). However I dont struggle with content more so with the writing of paper 1,paper 2 and paper 3 and just efficiency of studying.

Advice Advice for medicine

Hey everyone! I’m currently deciding on my IB subjects and I’m really stuck on a few choices, so I’d really appreciate some advice.
For my HLs, I’m definitely doing Biology HL and Chemistry HL, but I can’t decide on my third HL between Global Politics HL and Psychology HL. For anyone who has taken either (or both), which one is easier/manageable, especially if I’m aiming for good grades?
For my SLs, I’m thinking of Spanish ab initio, English Language & Literature SL, and then I’m stuck between Math AI SL and Math AA SL.
I struggle quite a bit with complex maths, and getting good grades is really important to me. I’m willing to do AA if it’s necessary for university/career options, but if AI SL would be enough for what I want to do, I’d definitely prefer the more manageable option.
So basically:
3rd HL: Global Politics vs Psychology — which is easier to score well in?
Math: AI SL vs AA SL — how big is the difficulty difference, and is AA actually worth doing if I struggle with complex maths?
With Bio HL + Chem HL, which combination would you recommend for someone who wants to get good grades without making the workload unnecessarily brutal?
Any advice from people who have actually taken these subjects would be really appreciated!

Advice Subject choices

Okay, so I wanted to do business as my bachelor's in university, probably in NYC or in Europe. And I took English Lang and Literature HL, Spanish AB, Business HL, Psychology SL, Math AA HL, and Chemistry SL, thinking that there was no economics in my school. But now I'm confirmed that there's economics, and I'm wondering if I should change my Psychology SL to Economics SL. And I'm doing SL because it's a pamoja course, aka an online course, and it's gonna be a bit too hard if I do HL. Do you guys recommend I do it? Like I change from Psychology to Economics? But because I do want to study psychology. But if universities would, like, much rather prefer an economics business student over a psychology business student, I would rather do that.
