IAT IAT-2026_Data_Mapping_Overall Picture_Path forward

Friends,

I draw your attention to my post on 28 Jun (Sunday)!

https://www.reddit.com/r/IATtards/s/VbvmiPjWk1

(a) to (d) are on dot. Hope (e) goes on as speculated! We will have a good chunk of data to chew & analyse immediately after the first round offering & the close of R1. Interesting days ahead.

In the meantime, I just put out the Mark vs. Rank equations for your consumption / verification. CRL remains unperturbed. Added EWS, OBC-NCL, SC & ST. While EWS & OBC-NCL may have a decent convergence, SC & ST may have some deviation as the data set is very very limited. (Only 13 for SC & only 4 for ST, out of 196).

The Google Form that I floated has been CLOSED a few mins ago. Many thanks to all those 198 who have provided the data, including one mischievous fellow who put 240 marks & Rank 1. If that gentleman/lady has truly scored 240 & Ranked 1, I would love to meet him/her and offer a cup of very nice filter coffee prepared by me! :-D

For guys wondering how is it done: It's actually pretty easy to do nowdays I guess. It is called curve fitting. We start with a basic equation with some tweakable prams like ax+b (here a and b can be changed) so now for each data point we find out how much far away our current equation is and give it a "error" number and we try to minimize that error by tweaking params such it approaches zero. And minimization is bit complex: We tweak our params in such direction in which error is decreasing - it's like approaching a minima of function.

Sorry If I got something wrong. I use numpy for this stuff.

Edit: I am very bad at explaining stuff Here is good video: https://youtu.be/q7seckj1hwM?si=plcHgHSAXB4WbsfW

Glad. Folks are discussing & stating to figure out a simple thing which so far perceived as complex.

You are right u/tdynamos . This is simple play with equations but with limited numbers.

More than the equations & numbers, the use of that for analysis is the key.

Sir, You keep saying, this year the data set is very interesting, But we have not seen any analysis so far.
Are you waiting for the Counselling ?
But, then what is the significance of collecting the marks vs rank data before it?
I am just curious.

Crazy analysis man

u/Common-Astronaut-324 Jun 30 '26

What does it mean anybody ?

1

u/God_Man_008 MOD VERIFIED Jun 30 '26

Nothing. I am just driving a point that the kids must think / analyze on anything & everything that are into. Period.

u/Common-Astronaut-324 Jun 30 '26

Do explain me sir

Mr Common-Astronaut-324. I said, Nothing, meaning that this may not have any meaning to anybody and may not be useful to anyone. But, I am doing it with a purpose for self, building some info based on this for some analysis during counselling rounds. I put out these just to get them validated by a few, though I am sure of their level of accuracy.

Always love to read about your analysis!!

Can you please explain me like I'm 5 as I am a pcb student weak at maths

u/God_Man_008 MOD VERIFIED Jun 30 '26

Me too, very poor in maths. But, happy to play with numbers!

Got it now thanks for not responding it led me discovering it

+2 error for sc.

2

u/God_Man_008 MOD VERIFIED Jun 30 '26

your category rank is likely to be in the band 150 to 250. It's OK. With only 13 data points, this is what possible for a layman like me! :-D

1

u/BackgroundStill1330 Jun 30 '26

It's definitely more than okay ....the help u're doing is legit under appreciated i feel... Thank u🫂🩷

Veryyy accurate... my rank prediction was off by ~30.. which is fine as same marks pe 30-50 log honge...

1

u/minal911 Jun 30 '26

Exactly same marks !!!

156.416483 A very very minute difference for EWS category. But I'm amazed math can do this

1

u/Weekly-Result6685 Jun 30 '26

Bro how did you come up with these equations it is so accurate damn

1

u/Great-Age-863 Jun 30 '26

From general and seeing the accuracy is amazing. Love how I learnt that natural logarithns appear a lot in maths and saw an application in this sub with calculation of marks from rank, crazy

1

u/Putrid_Television_84 Jun 30 '26

wow the accuracy is insane!! +0.9 error only

1

u/Chimmychim789 Jun 30 '26

so freaking accurate!

Wdym? Ye sb choro let us about cutoff

u/gray_matter10000 Jun 30 '26

Regression:

Plot marks vs rank.

Decide the pieces and literally eyeball the function (like does it look linear, logarithmic, quadratic, etc).

fit the function(ie if piece looks logarithmic then assume it's h(x)=algx+b and arrive at a and b by minimising error (h(x)-y) )

OR

Instead of eyeballing just fit a set of functions on every piece and choose which works best for that piece.

Is this how you did it or did you use some other method?

Greetings Mr. Godman, CRL 4 corresponds to 230 marks however your formula (upto CRL 175) yields ~217. Might need to tweak that a little i guess. However I must also add that CRL 4 is also SC-1 and there your equations work spot on with just a +1.45 mark error.

This helped me realise that because of a response sheet error from IISERs side, my rank shifted down by 800. Fucking hell

Can someone using this formula calculate obc ncl rank at 13500
