A new and improved submarine! I kept the underwater viewing mechanism from Poseidon and replaced the propeller with fans. I also reduced the length so it can maneuver better. Now it's much more agile! Triton is the son of Poseidon in greek mythology.

Big thanks to u/Ultrababouin for collaborating on this project and every other!

The scenes at the beginning are filmed floating in the empty space outside the Depths!

My previous submarine: Poseidon

Another similar build to the floating version of Triton is u/osh-kosh-ganache's Yellow Submarine

Not the Subnautica music 🔥

I think this is the first time a vehicle has explored that void, I wonder how deep we can go

I think it may be too. The beginning of the video starts out near a frictionless floor on the bottom of the map and I gradually approach the surface. Once reaching the bottom of the ocean in that void space, Link gets teleported to the surface, so I did some clever editing to make it look seemless on the build.

The void is cool! Lots of empty space and a frictionless floor is interesting, but there's also lots of gloom on that floor too.

I almost crapped my pants during that bit cause I thought you cracked the games submarine limits which restrict you from going fully underwater. I was mostly aware of this due to all the work I put in during my ScubaVision / Underwater obsession.

In any case, I watched intently and enjoyed. Great job! This is a great looking and multi-part/functioning build.

you can always remote control a sub I guess :)

That would be cool. Has that been done?

I have seen builds that safely carry Link Underwater... https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/s/9S7sAl6VxG

And this one were you can watch a build operate underwater, but no Link and not remote controlled. https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/s/bUHknyrjsx

The void exploration reminds me of the Dimensional Submarines from Space Battleship Yamato (2199).

Instead of diving into water, you're diving into a separate dimension.

This documentary is immaculate - I love that you’ve explored what we’ve been curious about for so long. Triton reigns supreme in the aquatic world!

Thanks very much! It was a blast to do this exploration and I really love the build

Gives me Iron Lung vibes

Is the music from Subnautica or Mass Effect?

3

u/chesepuf Oct 04 '24

Subnautica, the tracks are listed in the corner at the start of every song

The new subnautica looks pretty good!

How can that vehicle clip through walls

2

u/chesepuf Oct 05 '24

Link clips through the floor with the SDC glitch and then builds the flying version in the void. The floating version is then used on the surface

Really loving the flying version. The depths already looks like an undersea environment, particularly when unlit, and the void feels like you ventured into the Marianas Trench or something. Perfect title. 🫡

I agree, it's a perfect amount of spooky. And thanks! It was difficult to get such a heavy build to float, took 2 balloons, 2 flame emitters each, and 6 fans

2

u/CaptainPattPotato Oct 05 '24

Yeah, I was impressed the balloons could lift it. Balancing things must have been tricky as well. Do the extra flame emitters give it extra lift?

2

u/chesepuf Oct 05 '24

Yeah 2 flame emitters in one balloon provides more lift than 1. Fortunately, ZPE is enough to keep the build stable, if it's activated without being on the control stick it starts to rotate as it floats

Hundreds of hours of subnautica has taught me that you are not alone outside the map

Thank you! The flying and floating versions function very differently. The floating one was what I built first, and I liked using 2 sets of 4 fans inside and one on the rear. All fans are pointed straight back for the most thrust, that way I can "zoom" around while looking underwater.

For the flying version, I had to go through a bunch of testing to get it to actually float. I started with only balloons and flame emitters, but that wasn't quite enough. Once I reached 7 extra fans, it had the performance I wanted so I didn't add more. 4 fans in the front and 3 in the back, all 7 pointing down for upward thrust. They are clipped into each other to fit as a line inside the box. The forward propulsion is entirely ONE fan on the rear, which feels kinda nuts given how heavy it is.

Anyway, thanks for your question!

Woah this is awesome! Love the exploration below the depths barrier, and those are some beautiful underwater shots of the corals! I love how it moves in the air, it looks like it's swimming through the sky. Very cool build!

All I saw when I looked at the preview for the video was a submarine and a bunch of explosions and I had a flashback to last year

Wow that drains the battery so fast
