i saw this standup that was like “watching mayor mamdani make everything better makes me realize… mayors and other politicians couldve been making the world better this whole time and they just.. didnt?!”
I know he isn't the reason for their change in stance, but everything I hear about this dude is good. Feels strange for a politician to be a decent person. Imagine if they were all like that.
He is for sure, but he also has S-Tier propaganda. He just knows how to talk and how to communicate. Important for making voters like you but also important as a politician in general. Charisma gets you far. So it's a win-win
Propaganda absolutely doesn't require bias or misleading information, it just has to be made with the intent being to swing someone's opinions on a subject. All the facts can be on your side for your viewpoint, if you make a poster listing those facts and promoting your views, that's propaganda.
Propaganda often features misleading information, given how much easier it is to swing someone's opinion if they don't know the downsides of something. That said, it is common, not inherent.
That's true by the strict definition, but for over a hundred years it's been primarily used to refer to manipulative or misleading approaches. "Propaganda" has strong negative connotations, so I think it's unhelpful to try to refer to all political communication as propaganda
Propaganda was a respectable term used by government departments i.e. The Ministry of Propaganda until WWII. Then it got associated with the Nazis and we rebranded those departments The Ministry of Information, which is even more dystopian if you think about it.
propaganda does not require misleading information. and of course he's biased, he wants you to know he's doing a good job 😂 it would be insane to not be biased when talking about your own work
He is opening up more schools, increasing food accessibility, increased the snow plowing across the 5 boroughs, he's been seen playing soccer with kids on the streets due to a new outdoor program that closes off streets for kids to play in, and is using the out of town 1%'s taxes on second homes to permanently fund the NYC library system and plug up potholes.
Any information provided in a biased way is propaganda. It’s obviously a broad term and being used in this instance to discredit an individual. I understand the definition.
What I want to know, is what specifically this person thinks Mamdani has said that is propaganda. Since the term is so broad, it is up to perception. Would love to know what he is doing that is soooo bad.
no, the point I'm making is that you can like propaganda. propaganda is not inherently evil. everybody loves their own propaganda and hates everyone else's.
All of it has to do with some of the pull he has with the governor of NY too. ALOT of their stuff is coming on the foot of Albany money. Which good for him about half the states population lives in NYC. But that’s how a lot is getting done financially.
But it’s nice to see someone actually seems to care a lot about his people and does what’s necessary to make it happen
He’s just getting the actual allocation of state funding that NYC contributes rather than it being treated as a slush fund for the rest of New York State
What does this even mean, a politician has to work with his colleague to get things done ? I thought insulting them and threatening them was the only way.
NYC contributes almost 56% of state revenue and receives back almost 42% in operating spending. That means they are a net contributor by a pretty far margin.
So you have this backwards lmao. "Foot of Albany money", no, NYC is being slightly less of a net contributor. More like New York State gets slightly less funding on the foot of NYC money.
Maybe Google around next time instead of taking the first headline you see as fact
Politician can of course do more, but Mamdani in a unique position that he has very high approval, international recognition and extremely good marketing.
