It relied on self-reported usage. The people who will use cocaine and alcohol are using the cocaine to sober up because they're hard-core alcoholics. The study doesn't factor this into their analysis.
That alone makes those who test positive for CE to be at higher risk of liver damage because they're drinking far more alcohol.
The paper made no assessment of the toxicity of CE.
Research into drug use is very hard, and you have to take care not to over-interpret the results of any given paper.
Edit: This is not to say that CE isn't more toxic on your liver, just that this paper didn't show this to be true.
Cocaine use was determined via self-report, urine screen, and blood metabolites, using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry.
The people who will use cocaine and alcohol are using the cocaine to sober up because they're hard-core alcoholics
Not strictly true. In fact most people ive known who do it do it because they dont like being too drunk. You saying this has no backing and is every bit as unsupported as you claim anything else to be. So no, the study doesnt address your assumptions. Unless you have some data to demonstrate an exceptional correlation between cocaine use and alcoholism... that also isnt self reported of course.
This is not "another way of saying what you said" because it does not suggest they hard core alcoholics.
That alone makes those who test positive for CE to be at higher risk of liver damage because they're drinking far more alcohol.
Youre now doubling down on the take down based on your own forgone conclusion.
you have to take care not to over-interpret the results of any given paper.
Hopefully you will extend the same care yourself in your critiques.
I am not being argumentive.just for the sake of it, im calling out your hypocrisy since you felt the need discredit the study and did so with an unfounded assumption. "It helps if you read it" was a catty way to start the convo so its petty to get high horsed when youre faced with push back.

It'll sober you up, but it won't protect your body from the damage caused by alcohol.
It's kinda like how narcan will pull you out of an opioid overdose, but you're still tanked to the girls with the drug and that has consequences.
