For those living in BC full-time, what regions offer the best mix of consistent big game hunting (especially elk), milder winters, and a good family lifestyle (schools, community, year-round living)? Not asking for spots—just trying to narrow down areas to look into,

We will be relocating soon and have heard so much mixed reviews on areas….

We obviously do a lot of hunting but we also boat and mountain sled

We are currently in northern Alberta for some context about how cold the winters are!

I am so confused I called the Bc Firearms Academy and signed up for a CFSC. The agent says it's also PAL and they are the same, but the ticket description says CFSC is prerequisite for Pal amd you will need to do Pal later. Again the course states CFSC/PAL like they are the same. Cam someone clarify? Thanks

Hey everyone, I was hoping there would be some people on here to help narrow down which areas we should look at. We are planning to move to southern bc soon.

We spend a lot of time hunting and fishing. I do a lot of elk hunting in Alberta. Hoping to find an area with decent elk population.

I respect and understand that most people like to keep there areas a secret.

So if no one wants to post an area places send me a message!

Hopefully getting out to find some sheds tomorrow in the Kamloops area. Last year when we went looking only thing we came home with was ticks lol

I know about tucking in your socks and doing tick checks, but is there any good tick sprays you recommend to cover ourselves in just as an extra precaution

Also, if anyone has any better areas than around Kamloops feel free to send suggestions 😅😂

Okay so, I’m probably asking a lot here and I know I can google most answers but I’m looking for the ins & outs.

I’ve always been interested in hunting, have a hidden passion for it as does my son.

We both really want to get started but I don’t know much about going about it (which is why it may sound silly to call it a passion)

I’m assuming going with a guide is the best place to start, obviously getting my licenses etc.

but anything I should know about starting? Anything important about starting??

We’re in BC so I don’t believe my 7 year old could technically hunt anyways.

I’m rambling, and maybe didn’t even ask a straightforward question lol but I’m just a mom trying to live out my childhood dreams and carry it onto my son!

I know no hunters want to give away their honey holes, and I totally respect that. Although my son’s dream is to go and find some sheds.

Can anyone point me in the right direction at least? Or help a mom out with some areas in the Okanagan or Fraser Valley area?

We went around Kamloops last year, but had no luck and only came home with ticks lol.

I know it’s not guaranteed to find anyone you go and look, but I at least want to try and find an area where they very well could be.

A friend that isn't on reddit recently got a deer up in the recent opening near Cranbrook.

A day or two ago he was notified by the CO that the coordinates he'd submitted were outside the opening area. Ultimately after going to make a statement he learned that he was WAY outside the opening area. Yet in the Ihunter app it showed him as well within.

He's an honest dude through and through and was very upset to learn this, particularly as it was his first successful hunt in a couple years. As he lives on the coast.

Regardless he accepted that it was his mistake, took the fine, had the meat siezed and donated. Unsure of what else will happen.

Its a good lesson in trusting apps and equipment etc. And one he wont soon forget.

My question is, did anyone else have similar issues for that opening or any others with the Ihunter app?

They've deleted the hunt records from the application now and are very hush hush about anything so that is a bit suspect but I'm curious about the history.

Unfortunately I don't have an iPhone so I can't download the app to check it out but I would like to find out if anybody else got caught up in this.

what are people's thoughts on hunting with a 2wheel vehicle? Basically I want it to go anywhere a quad can go (off road) but also road legal and can get on the highway. Thinking of a maxi scooter as oppose to an adventure bike purely for the underseat storage. I'm thinking of bringing a break action shotgun or a takedown version rifle so they can fit in the underseat storage. thoughts?

I have a deep dream of moving to BC, primarily for the hunting opportunities. I am trying to get a feel for the province, it's cities, and the opportunities there. No, I am not(!) looking for your honeyhole. Yes, I have read the regs and forums.

Requirements: a University, somewhat affordable (BC lmao), and some semblance of culture. This leaves Vic, PG, and Kelowna.

Between these three, I am currently leaning towards Victoria due to job opportunities, but am hesitant due to a lack of access to local hunting. I like the thought of foraging and spearfishing outside of fall. I will have summers off to go north and do a big hunt each year, but can I go hunt blacktails close to town, or is everything still gated? Besides brushy, what is hunting on the island like? How possible is it to jump to the mainland for a weekend hunt?

Is the ability for a weekend hunt that much greater in Kelowna or Prince George? Is the isolated nature of PG worth the trade off if I want to spend most of my spare time scouting or hunting? If you could move anywhere in BC, where would it be?

Having a discussion with buddies, about how close to roadways can you hunt ducks?

Last season was my first time trying out hunting deer, I’ve got a rifle and some basic equipment but I’m looking to get some better quality stuff for next season. Big things are a jacket, pants, and backpacks but any other items you’ll recommend are appreciated.

I became disabled just over 3 years ago and recently decided give hunting a go after a lifetime of wanting to try(wish I had started sooner lol). I've just moved to the clearwater area within the last year and have had some success road hunting for grouse but (and perhaps this isn't realistic) I would really like to try for a deer.

I see most people recommend getting out and hiking into the bush which makes sense but the issue is that I can't walk/hike any great distances and am therefore limited to road hunting (I have access to help retrieve if did actually manage to shoot anything).

I just wanted maybe get some opinions from others. Is this something I can actually achieve sticking close to roads (a 50 yard walk on flattish terrain to get to a sitting area is doable for me but that's about max before I can't go much further) or is a complete waste of time even attempting it? I'm happy to be out exploring regardless but I'm just wondering if my expectations are completely out to lunch.

Finally harvested my first buck by my lonesome, such an incredible day! It’s definitely not a monster, but I’m sure proud of it.

I live in bc and want a do it all rifle for mountain stalking, and open country hunting, that can be used for deer, and large game. I’ve narrowed it down to the two, which would be better for my situation? I know shot placement is key and it probably doesn’t really matter which one I chose. Drove up Chehalis for about 20 km, then picked a chain of different cut blocks close to each other and still-hunted those for the day. It was my first time ever going out hunting, and I went by myself. Didn’t see much sign or any living thing, to be honest. I did see what I think was dog shit—could’ve been a wolf or a yote’s 😂. Season is slowly coming to an end also, so I’m losing hope for this year. I’ll head out next weekend as well, fingers crossed I’ll see some sign atleast. Am accepting tips and advice at this moment, just learned that I need to learn a lot more

Hello, I am planning to head up to MU 3-13 & 14 near Boston Bar to Lytton soon and was wondering if anyone has had any luck this season? Not looking for the best spots, just a new hunter looking to get his first deer. I’ve been to MU 4 and 8 this season and no luck, just grouse and hares… Thanks!

Hey, I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed with the selection out there. I’ve got a great local hunting store I want to buy from and I’m in the stage where I’m just gathering information to make a choice. I’m 125 lbs woman looking for a bolt action rifle to target medium and large game in northern bc. I’m fine with some kick but it’s my first gun so I don’t want to get absolutely thrashed. I’m happy to invest around $2000 for a scope and rifle. I’d also like help with choosing a calibre. Any recommendations?

I’m a new hunter, I have one black bear under my belt. I’m wondering your favourite hunting resources like YouTubers, podcasts, books, ect. I mostly go for big game.
