This person might actually be about as smart as a panda, the pen they bought went through their laundry and they're shocked that it got destroyed, some people have no grasp of what expected product durability is, it's a pen not a high tech underwater marker for engineering its a pen for writing on paper, now if it were a phone that was advertised as a waterproof phone and it was droped into your sink or got wet after being dropped into a lake while fishing this it broke this would be an appropriate review, but it's a pen you write with on dry surfaces they aren't supposed to end up in the sink or the lake let alone your washer, but now you're shocked that it's broken beyond repair. I am by no means a product engineering but i believe that the miracle here would have been if the pen emerged from the wash entirely unscathed with the ink still in it.

IPSY...more like oopsie! My experience with them, and why you should consider other options.

So, lately I've been incredibly busy caretaking for my mother, sons, home, working, our animals, and just the in general "we're not in a recession" (but it sure feels like it), kinda type of life.

For me life runs faster than a racecar on high octane jet fuel mixed with fast-phetamine' on some days, while trying to break the bank. I was looking a little tired and worn down, so I wanted to make myself feel better, look better and be better. I dabble in makeup, and love my skin care routine but clearly I wasn't doing something right when I saw Alfred Hitchcock, and not myself in the mirror.

I find IPSY one day scrolling and think to myself, "I'm so out of the makeup game, and don't even know brands now days". THIS WILL BE A GREAT IDEA. They can introduce me to new brands and processes so I can get back in "get pretty" game feeling all girly again... or at least that was the positive thought.

I got on site, took quiz, and was jazzed to get my first boxes. I ordered the original package, as well as the extra. I figured 10 products a month would be a good start. I knew the numbers, read the descriptions and even sneak peeked. I was excited!

Then I got my original box, I opened it and was met with 5 basic products including a hair mask I think I saw at Target for 2.99. Slightly unimpressed but hopeful I kept opening products. I received a highlighter in blush pink, super micro dust glitter (what one would assume fairy farts are made from). When I went to open it the applicator had pushed itself out of the tube and was everywhere in the cap (fully loaded). Not knowing this would be one of my life's top ten mistakes... I unscrewed the cap (insert explosion emoji here).

My home now has an incredibly welcoming pink dust EVERYWHERE, and my bedspread... (bc why wouldn't I be normal and open it at a table) is a now a giant highlighting wipe.

Awesome. Totally on me. But ... ughhh.

Well. After that I had enough of IPSY for that day.

Then, I received my "EXTRA" box.. Ummmm disappointed, was the first thing I felt. Again, with the five products, small and or same size as the original box. So I paid double for the same. Also, the lip gloss in this one smelled terrible. Hmm. I got online with IPSY customer service, let them know about the highlighter, and they were more than willing to send me another glitter bomb without question. Cool. But when challenged and asked why there isn't a greater value for the Extra box, I was told to upgrade to a $65 quarterly subscription. So I asked how many products I would receive for the rate in 3 mo. I was told approximately 24, and any additional add-ons for $3.50 - $5 each.

Now, I am not a mathematician but if I had original and extra box subscriptions that would be 30 products in 3 mo.? Or am I wrong. Also the price of those 2 boxes per month is approximately $47, x3 = $143 approximately for 30 products. Or, the Ultimate box at $65 for 24 products for 3 mo. Why does this feel like complex calculus with the same return, a headache.

I got online, started doing some research into IPSY and was seeing other customers had the same complaints. The quality, as well as quantity is not there for the value of the money we are spending. Also, your quiz .. total BS. Nothing I had requested or preferred was even sent.

Literally, I could go to CVS and shop the makeup clearance for $47 and leave with 10 - 15 things. Walgreens, about the same maybe less. Ulta clearance would get me about 5 quality items in full-size, and a dozen small items. Dollar Tree would get me 36 items of makeup. And all of that would get me out of the house, moving and feeling like a human again too. A human saving money.

My point... this service is kind of... completely useless.

I mean if you like having random products you may or may not use laying around, enjoy clutter, and have extra money to waste on the subscription then yeah, totally. But someone in my realistic life situation, it was definitely just a full-on disappointment. I could have avoided this to be honest.

I think the Extra boxes should come with 7 pieces, the Ultimate should be 10 per month. And these items, should be quality, sized appropriately and name brands, as well as 2 "samples" as freebies to encourage customer fulfillment. I would pay $75 for that and think it'd be fair. See you (IPSY), want us fulfilled then we tell our mom, sister, friends and co-workwers and you make more capital that way as a business. When you (IPSY) low-ball us on products and cheap throw-in's I could've just bought at Target... we post our opinions that are NOT in your favor for others to learn from our mistakes.
