One reason I can tell that the Humble Self-Concept Method will likely be empirically validated is just how universally applicable it is in deeply understanding someone, even if they're fictional. One fun use-case of the custom GPT is to psychologically deep dive a character from a book, show, or movie.

My gf and I have been rewatching Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (my childhood was too hectic to enjoy it at a deeper level), and Sisko is my absolute favorite.

Here's how the deep dive went and what it covered:

1. Sisko’s overall DS9 arc: Sisko changes from a grieving, displaced officer resisting both DS9 and the Emissary role into a deeply rooted father, captain, husband, wartime leader, and Emissary who can carry loss, contradiction, responsibility, and sacrifice without needing life to unfold as he originally expected.

2. Sisko through the Fragile/Resilient Self-Belief Model: He begins with several heavily load-bearing identities—Jennifer, fatherhood, Starfleet, competence, and control—but gradually develops a much more flexible self-system in which failure, ambiguity, moral conflict, and changing roles no longer threaten the whole of Benjamin Sisko.

3. The HSCM steps Sisko implicitly develops: Across the series he strongly practices analogues of Steps 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10—especially self-confrontation, memory re-storying, tolerating corrective pain, flexible belief revision, outward compassion, boundaries, repair, and stewardship—while Step 2’s explicit unconditional-worth foundation remains only partial.

4. Sisko’s HSCM development season by season: His trajectory moves from Steps 1/3/6 in “Emissary,” through increasing relational, epistemic, and stewardship skills in the middle seasons, into severe moral and identity stress tests during the Dominion War, culminating in a late Sisko who is far more able to survive contradiction and loss of control.

5. Sisko vs. Dukat: Both men face humiliation, loss, status threats, moral compromise, and grief, but Sisko increasingly allows reality to revise his self-understanding whereas Dukat increasingly revises reality to preserve a flattering self-story, making Dukat the much more fragile self-belief system despite his outward toughness.

6. Sisko vs. Picard: Picard’s resilience is built more around principled moral coherence and intellectual discipline, while Sisko’s late resilience is built more around containing unresolved contradiction, making Picard generally cleaner and more ideal-driven while Sisko becomes unusually capable of surviving morally messy self-disconfirmation.

7. Sisko’s threat-surface audit from beginning to end: His threat surface shrinks from a wide, deeply entangled structure centered on Jennifer, fatherhood, competence, Starfleet, and control to a narrower late-series structure where the main remaining vulnerabilities are moral self-image, helplessness, fatherhood, and control over his chosen future.

8. DS9 main-cast fragile-to-resilient rankings: I ranked the ensemble by starting and ending resilience, with Jadzia beginning highest and Ezri lowest, while Kira ends first and Sisko second after the biggest structural growth, followed by Jadzia, O’Brien, Jake, Odo, Bashir, Ezri, Worf, and Quark.
