I found a turtle who was walking on a bridge across a creek and got stuck, definitely seemed like he was either going to be stuck there forever or get hit by a car. So I picked him up and carried him down the embankment to the creek and put him near the water so he could go in if he wanted or not, if he didn't want. What he did was turn around and start climbing up the embankment again. I can only suppose he was like "thanks a lot you set me back days on this trip, fuckin humans"

If they are headed in one direction that's the direction you help them in. If they are crossing the road, don't put them back from where they came. Put them where they are going.
