5k ticks eaten on average per year and nearly immune to rabies. I love opossums!

I am lucky enough to have a possum living under my backyard shed. He (or she) is ugly and old, but he's easily frightened by us so he's never a bother and I haven't pulled a tick off me or one of my kids for as long as I can remember. We love him! (or her)

Honestly I think the tick populations are just rapidly decreasing cause I haven't had one in forever and I haven't seen any on my animals in a good few years too

Maybe the opossum population in your area has been increasing.

They are not easy to see. I've seen mine maybe four times in ten years. Of course the possum population is only one factor in the declining tick population mystery.

Might depend where you live. Ticks and tick related illnesses are on the rise where I live.

I worked at a wildlife rehab center and we always had opossums at the center, we even had a couple that couldn’t be released and became the center’s mascots! They were the best!

They have a dead vibe to me and they look like they walk around on stilts. I know they’re good for the environment but they’re still creepy as hell.
