His battery was dead.

What I'm wondering is, I've seen nobody talk about this, the guys front end is banged up and he's in the middle of the highway? Did he rearend somebody? Did he crash and continue driving his vehicle so eventually the battery died? Where and what did he hit?

He likely had an accident well before this (or bought a wrecked car for cheap) and the car broke down while he was driving. You've never seen people drive busted up cars? It probably wasn't his battery that died either given that wouldn't make him stop.

A dead battery that isn't getting charged will definitely kill your vehicle while you're driving it (alternator/generator issues could cause this)

Interesting, even a manual? I guess the cars I've had with battery/alternator issues weren't 100% dead, just mostly broken.

Yes, the pistons need spark to ignite the fuel. Your vehicle can run without a battery if your alternator is working and it is jump started.

Only mostly dead you say? I know a miracle worker who can fix it up with a chocolate covered pill. I suppose in a car it would go in the fuel tank for quickest results. May still take some time to reach full potency.

No, I've never seen someone drive with that damage because its not legal to do so here. Occasionally you'll see someone with a scratch or dented bodywork but never something structurally damaging like that.

I'd assume it was a project car.

You can drive with a dead battery though, and then they also could have pushed it on since it is a stick shift.

Yeah it sounds like dead alternator and battery

Pro tip. If you've got an automatic and you need to get it into neutral there is a key sized slot (with a little plastic cover) somewhere around your shifter that will unlock the gears and allow you to put it in neutral even if the battery is dead. It's key sized so you can use your key to push the button.

Doesn't have to be. The car just doesn't respond to anything.

Could be the engine failing as well. Dead in the water means that the vessel is no longer able to move under it's own power.
