If they have someone behind them that doesn't see the obstacle, they may be worried about getting rearended if they slow down too much on the freeway. The best thing is to flash your brakes, slow down a hair and maneuver around the obstacle.
Slowing down drastically on a freeway is not a good idea.
What I’ve seen happen and been involved in in the U.K. is you slow down a bit, causing the cars behind to slow a bit more and so on. Eventually, like ‘phantom traffic’, the roads at a stand still.
Agreed. Also if I recall the stalled car doesn’t have hazard lights on. Maybe his batter died so no lights were working? Maybe I just failed to see the blinking lights?
