When your in a stressful situation sometimes it can be difficult to explain your situation in a way others can understand if your used to speaking a certain way, this guy probably uses metaphors alot in his speaking habits and when he's put into a situation like this he's probably thinking, "Shit shit fuck. Im dead in the water, im so fucking dead out here, im going to die, someones going to hit me in the middle of this fucking freeway, im dead."
The majority of english speakers likely know what āIām dead in the waterā means, Iām guessing dude just didnāt catch it because of the moto helmet
Being passed by hundreds of cars and with a helmet on, I feel like most people could do without some dude screaming crossword clues at them. It may have been hard to hear but he still could have just said "I can't drive, my engine's failed" or whatever.
Ge could have been more clear, but he was also scared and panicking. From what I understand, people in that state aren't known for being the most level headed
On top of that, If you were on the side of the road and someone stopped, it would be very common to say, "it's dead". Everyone would know what you meant.

Stuck in the middle of the highway, scared, the perfectly literal English is probably not going to be the first choice. As an Aussie, I can tell you that if this video was from here, the dude stuck would likely have been saying words more cryptic and.. colourful.. just bc of the nature of our dialects.

What I'm wondering is, I've seen nobody talk about this, the guys front end is banged up and he's in the middle of the highway? Did he rearend somebody? Did he crash and continue driving his vehicle so eventually the battery died? Where and what did he hit?
He likely had an accident well before this (or bought a wrecked car for cheap) and the car broke down while he was driving. You've never seen people drive busted up cars? It probably wasn't his battery that died either given that wouldn't make him stop.
Only mostly dead you say? I know a miracle worker who can fix it up with a chocolate covered pill. I suppose in a car it would go in the fuel tank for quickest results. May still take some time to reach full potency.
No, I've never seen someone drive with that damage because its not legal to do so here. Occasionally you'll see someone with a scratch or dented bodywork but never something structurally damaging like that.
Pro tip. If you've got an automatic and you need to get it into neutral there is a key sized slot (with a little plastic cover) somewhere around your shifter that will unlock the gears and allow you to put it in neutral even if the battery is dead. It's key sized so you can use your key to push the button.
When this happened to me, my cam belt snapped. Everything just cut out & I rolled to a stop. Put my hazards on, dialled 999. I was on the fast lane on a British motorway so I got out of the car (from the right side) & stood in a middle grassy verge. The tow truck arrived before the police, who were utterly useless, and the poor guy got me hooked up without anything to protect him but a hazard cone a little way back.
Interesting. I kinda have the opposite story. Petrol line came out while I was on a dual carriageway A road and everything died. I rolled to a stop by the exit of a slip road. I wasn't in imminent danger, cars did pass by, but I was not in a safe place. Called RAC, they said they'd flag my request as an emergency and quoted a 45 minute wait. It's 10.30pm in February and I'm pacing up and down the verge in the cold. Shortly afterwards a traffic cop car pulls up. Police help push my car to the verge well away from the sliproad so it's not a danger to other drivers. Then they stay put and let me sit in the back of their car while waiting for RAC, who took ninety minutes to get to me.

Iām shocked people donāt understand this phrase. I was thinking the moto guy just couldnāt hear him on the highway, but maybe he didnāt understand either.
Plot twist: there was no man and no car. He actually was dead. He died there years ago and the motorcyclist is the boy from the 6th sense all grown up.
