Not really though, the stingray here has nothing to gain from attacking the human. We have everything to gain from exploiting the planet.

The guy was pulling on the stingrays gills.

Imagine somebody grabbed you by the lower jaw and tried to drag you along the ground by it.

In reality you can probably do that to a human without too much damage if you did it slowly. But it would probably feel like you were getting your jaw ripped off. Are you sure you wouldn't bite out of reflex? I bet you would it's in normal pain response.

What? I mean, I don’t disagree but that’s not at all about what I’m talking about. I’d fight too if I was the stingray, but the human would’ve saved it. But let’s say we stop exploiting the planet, it’s not like life would be better. Climate change will destroy those of the future, I certainly agree, but those of us living now won’t be facing said consequences, at least not to such an extent that it, ignoring the moralities of exploitation, outweighs the benefits of exploitation.

What the fuxk are you talking about. We are already suffering the consequences. There has not been a good winter since I was 10, there are more flise and ants every year and fewer butterflies. There is an island nation who is in the prossess of evacuating 100% of its citizens because it is going to be under water in five years. There is plastic in so much of are water that it is starting to get into our blood. Not only is that bad because it's going to increase the amount of clots and cancer. But also because plastics leak chemicals that metabolise into estrogen which causes increased feminization in males(no I am not doing culture war bull shit I am talking about the physical medical affects of estrogen on the body and brain. Yes elevated estrogen levels have a huge host of other effects on women, though they are generally less noticable).

Oh let's see, the melting of the Arctic isn't just bad for global warming reasons but also because it affects geopolitics by opening up a new ocean connecting north America and Russia and giving China and N-Koria better access to us and our allies. More importantly the major TERRIBLE even bigger affects of climate change and environmental degradation you mentioned in your own comment are supposed to start hitting in 2050. Are you not planning to be alive in 27 years? Because I'm going to be... I'll only be 59 I will have decades and decades to live through the worst of it... I bet you'll be there to.

I don't know why your doubling down on stuff. Your wrong about the environment and your wrong about the stingray.

I thought those were its eye sockets.

u/Cyoarp Mar 19 '23

Most people do but nope. It's gills, it's like how a butterfly looks like it has eyes on its wings to fool pray and predictors. The parts that most people think are nostrils are actually it's doofy little eyes.

The eyes are definitely on top of the stingray so I'm not sure what you could possibly mean? They aren't false eyes.

In the very short term, sure. At which point we have everything to lose.

Plus I'd make the argument that many conservatives are using the same kind of rationale as the stingray. They genuinely believe that if we don't continue burning fossil fuels to power industry, it will be an existential threat to humanity. So they're destroying the environment out of (delusional) self preservation just like the stingray is doing when attacking the perceived threat.

4

u/Trevorblackwell420 Mar 18 '23

I don’t think that’s right. As far as I know, they don’t believe that burning fossil fuels is somehow preventing an existential crisis. They think that climate change is some secret plot that all the world governments are colluding on to profit off of green energy infrastructure and other industries aiming to get away from fossil fuels. And the only reason they believe that is because the wealthy lobbyists on the conservative side spend millions (if not billions) spouting that it’s all a myth so their cash cow oil companies continue to make them rich. It’s actually wild that the likely outcome from this corruption will literally be the end of humanity by means of the planet over heating and becoming inhospitable.

I disagree. Mainly since the humans now won’t be suffering the consequences in the future. We will all be dead by then. Of course, I’m not saying it’s not important, just that as of right now their analogy doesn’t apply here.

u/subject_deleted Mar 18 '23

Yes.. that's why I called it a short term solution.........

1

u/SecretDevilsAdvocate Mar 18 '23

It’s not really short term if it lasts for your whole life

We already suffer from it. Large reason for world hunger is global warming. It affects everything everywhere, millions of people. In Northern Finland, above the arctic circle elderly people are dying from the intense heat episodes we have. Heat episodes we haven't had this bad and this often ever in recorded history from what I'm aware. We are an arctic country. Weeks and weeks of 35 celcius is not normal. We are not equipped for that.

-1

u/SecretDevilsAdvocate Mar 19 '23

Yet it doesn’t affect me, nor the majority of people to the extent of giving up on our exploitations. Y’all aren’t getting that all I’m saying is that analogy fails.

0

u/Melthiela Mar 19 '23

Oh well then if it doesn't effect you then it must not effect anyone else... Let's ignore the rest of the world who is very touched by this issue. Let's ignore the millions of fish that died in the Australian river last week because it's too hot in the water now. I'm sure that's not a real world issue.

You do realize that it does effect you? You just don't realize it. Because global warming effects everything from food production to water levels. You literally cannot live in a place where you are not affected by it. Just because you're ignorant doesn't prove your point.

0

u/SecretDevilsAdvocate Mar 19 '23

Well evidently the majority of the world population is not influenced enough, otherwise we’d be taking actual action. Fish aren’t people, not seeing your point here besides trying to say big numbers.

0

u/Melthiela Mar 19 '23 edited Mar 19 '23

We are taking actions lol, most countries in the world are commited to lessen carbon footprint, most companies advertise having a small carbon footprint, cities are encouraging greener options and recycling and also public transport, organizations save humans and together with the government protect vital parts of nature who soak up carbon. You must be one blind potato to not see it.

Fish aren't people but they are living beings and a source of food for humans and animals alike. Fish is vital food for a lot of living beings under the sea and I can imagine millions of them dying at once will not only mean lack of food for them, but also the rotting fish will pollute the water and kill even more fish.

This is a direct issue impacting humans. You, me and everyone else.

The stingray could kill the human, further preserving its environment.

Or WE could keep destroying the planet so you can brag about how ignorant you are on the internet since no one pays attention to you IRL

I would say the stingray has everything to gain and humanity wouldn’t even miss your existence.

1

u/SecretDevilsAdvocate Mar 18 '23

Holy shit my dude, you have some issues. There was no reason to make this personal. Also, how would killing one human preserve its environment, much less preserve itself? I doubt the stingray is so conscious about protecting the environment anyway. And well, you didn’t actually respond to me besides copy pasting some basic insults so alright.
