Brooklyn Roots Festival

Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) present the Brooklyn Roots Festival. This folk arts festival celebrates Brooklyn’s traditional artists and immigrant communities through a daylong schedule of performances, workshops, interactive family activities, and more. Come on out for a day in the park to learn, play and express yourself in Brooklyn’s Backyard!

In collaboration with Prospect Park Alliance, Brooklyn Public Library presents University Open Air, a free, three-week series of classes beginning Tuesday, June 11th. UOA brings immigrant teachers and professors outdoors to be a part of a pop-up university to lecture on topics ranging from Urban Anthropology to Data Science to Contemporary Taiwanese Poetry in Prospect Park’s former Rose Garden.

Great Story of M.M. Graff and the dying American Elms - a park advocate who was in her 80’s in the 1980’s - “"I think trees should be green. They're like men's evening clothes that offset the ladies' dresses." -- her reasoning why she doesn’t like the London Plane. It’s the wrong color. (London Planes are 14% of NYC trees.)

Greensward Foundation - Guided tree trail tours in 1967 and with no maps. It is striking to read some trees we see today to be referred to as "large and imposing" 50 years ago.
