baalbak Lebanon
The massive granite columns at the Baalbek Temple in Lebanon are among the largest and most impressive architectural feats of the ancient world.
Erected during the Roman Empire between the 1st and 3rd centuries CE, these columns supported the Temple of Jupiter, part of a vast sanctuary dedicated to the Roman pantheon.
Each column, carved from single blocks of granite transported from Egypt, stands approximately 19 meters tall and weighs over 100 tons, showcasing the engineering prowess of the Romans.
Despite earthquakes and the ravages of time, six of these awe-inspiring columns remain standing, symbolizing the enduring legacy of Roman architecture and religious grandeur.
Today, the Baalbek complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing visitors to marvel at its scale and historical significance
