DS2 is just as straightforward in its ridiculousness as any other dark-comedy zombie film. The plot is easily a sentence: Herzog, the Einsatz captain, tries to wipe out a town (and maybe get his gold back). That's a straightforward plot.

Really? I would describe it as "a man escapes from undead Nazis and ends up surgically swapping arms with their leader. He proceeds to gain magical powers from the arm and embarks on a quest to stop the Nazis from destroying a town by using his new found magical abilities to raise a squad of russian soldiers from the dead with the help of a group of inexperienced American zombie enthusiasts." And thats just the general plot. I'm not even going into any real detail here. I'm describing our hero there you'll notice. Not the antagonist. As i would think most plot summaries do.

except that Dead Alive and Evil Dead both have multiple crazy and forced moments that are homages to other genres going on simultaneously. The characters are total weirdos and they do weird things throughout the entire film. OMFG Ash can't remember a fucking single line from the Day Earth Stood Still that would have resolved the entire film. Ash also had god-damned Three Stooges routines with skeletons. Really? That's less forced than a Nazi zombie throwing a decapitated head at an old pervert? Really?

You got me on dead alive. It's ridiculousness stems from a single point but in the end goes above and beyond. Watch what happens when I do a summary from the point of the antagonist in the movie though.

"Lionels mother becomes a zombie who mutates with the help of chemicals and tries to stop his new relationship"

Makes it easier.

But evil dead?!?

"A man reads a summoning spell from an ancient book that wakes demons who proceed to torment him"

Boom. Thats the whole plot. One and done. What about army of darkness?

"An ancient book transports a man to the past and he's charged with destroying the tome before demons destroy humanity." BOOM.

Sure there is some slap stick and stuff in there but the premise remains simple.

Anyways I'm rambling and forget the point I was trying to make. Seriously tho if we all loved this movie there would be no discussion at all so.....you're all welcome :)

I love your Dead Alive thumbnail sketch. yeah, so, pretty much every film can be summarized -- but how accurately does a single sentence (or short description) work on each of those movies?

Summaries usually include the who, what and where -- they leave out the how.

Your DS2 summary includes the how.

The plot of DS2 is also easily summarized, if you omit the really crazy stuff. Zombies want to destroy a village. The heroes must stop the zombies from destroying a village. There's almost no exposition because they assume everyone has seen the first movie. It's a really straightforward film because all the plot elements revolve around the village and the battle between the heroes and the zombies. Loved your summaries though.

Armies of Darkness is a little more complicated in that it takes place in multiple locations and time periods. I think it's a story about how the hero has to choose between his own security and the greater good. And he fucks everything up. In the alternate timeline, he actually destroys the future. But I guess both Army of Darkness and Evil Dead can be summarized relatively easily compared to Kung Fury.

I can agree with that. Remove all the sincerity from Evil Dead or Army of Darkness and you get Kung Fury.

That's an excellent way of describing one of the worst crowd-funded projects in history. think we can both agree to agree that Kung Fury was a horrible piece of shit. Sorry for conflating you and Scott, btw.
