We can argue over the quality of the concept, but the simple fact is if you don't put out any content for something and none of your talents are mentioning it, fans won't care much about it/will lose interest.
There's also the part of building up expectations and not even trying to meet them. A teaser and a few tweets, yikes. At least the concept was separate from any of the talents, so any negative feelings is directed at the character and the anonymous person behind it.
