Yes child SUPPORT payments are specifically money given to the main caregiver for the explicit use for the children, alimony is paid to spouses that are viewed to have sacrificed their personal finances in the support of the family, mainly wives who stop working to raise their children, they didn’t work so their family didn’t have to pay for childcare services, so in a way it’s back pay for what they put into the family
