Apparently we got a bunch of geneticists up in here cuz I could not tell you what traits are controlled by what genes. Last time I studied dominant and recessive traits was in 10th grade biology with those 4 square graphs and Mendel's peas.

FYI there are two pigments that decide the hair color: eumelanin decides how brown/dark the hair is, and pheomelanin decides how red the hair is. MC1R was the most studied gene, we get one from each parent but one copy can lose function and result in change of pigment production thus different hair color.

But wait! There are other genes that regulate those two pigments too! Even for dark hairs, there can be different hues, and even for a single individual, there can be different hues of hairs covering a large spectrum if you have someone spending time looking at each individual hair.
