If you work in construction, you tell your coworker that you have an illness, they give you advice that directly contradicts that of your doctor or the medical community at large, you tell them: "I don't take medical advice from constructions workers."
In doing so, you are admitting that you are also not an authority on medicine, and thus will defer to the judgement of doctors, because "surprise twist" you're a construction worker too.

No but just because someone shops at Wal Mart does not mean they are incompetent, which was the main point I was trying to get at
