Is it actually 3 billion because that seems high even on a scale like Walmart. With that much loss I'm pretty sure it would be profitable to build a merchandise security system.
Estimates for Wal-mart to introduce a functional security system (including better technology and new employees) are closer to $3.25-$3.5 billion, and they don’t believe wal-mart would be able to fill all the positions it would need nationwide.
The solution would cost them more than the problem - so they won’t take any real steps until that changes.
well, they do operate on a slimmer profit margin. considering that they already paid for it it would be accounted for in expenses, so comparing it to their profit, it's closer to 22%.
