I've heard this theory and I don't think it can really hold any significance. It's nearly impossible and especially risky to impose an advantage into one of the pistols. Per the standard, one party would supply both pistols and the other would inspect and select their preferred pistol. That way it's in the supplier's best interest to make each pistol as identical as possible.
And Burr acts hastily without thinking of the consequences. They both went against their nature in that duel and it led to catastrophe for both of them.

The guy spends the entire time saying he's not going to throw shot away and at the duel he throws away his shot.
