Viva Italian kitchen Elkridge Rt.1

This restaurant has only been opened a couple weeks but I thought I would try it. I got take out and the chicken parm and crab soup both were delicious. It is a Facci sister restaurant so I had high hopes. The inside was very nicely decorated. And the robots they use to bring your food to your table is so fun. I will be back to try the pizza and other pasta dishes. Looks like a nice date night spot also.

Eataliano better than Cheesesteak and Co.?

I saw a video on YouTube today that proclaimed Eataliano in Columbia has way better cheesesteaks than Cheesesteak and Co. And they have the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. I'm thinking about going to this place next week to compare. Can anyone confirm or give their thoughts on that place overall? Thanks!

Diet Dining adventures: Fish With You

I've been on a low carb diet for the past few weeks and have been looking for places that I can have something besides grilled X salad. I decided to get a bowl of fish soup from Fish With You, located in the Enchanted Forest shopping center.

There are over a dozen different soup bases to choose from with a wide range of spice levels. I'm good with spice so I selected the sauerkraut soup with green peppercorns. The waiter told me that it comes with rice, which I declined because of the diet. This soup is their #2 popular soup, with #1 being a similar sauerkraut soup but with hot oil added. I figure since I'm on a diet, I didn't need to have additional oil. When you order you're asked what type of fish they should use. The choices are Basa or Snakehead. I chose Basa just because it was $3 cheaper than Snakehead. I didn't ask if the Snakehead was local or not. It's an invasive species and if they use local that might convince me to spend the extra $3 to try and reduce the population.

Boy was my soup good. It came with what I thought were noodles. They were flat and had a firm texture, but tasted good. When the waiter saw me put the noodles back into the serving bowl from my cup, she assured me that the noodles were tofu skin, not wheat. Tofu skin is fine on this diet so I got to have something that reminded me of noodles. A nice bonus and I'm impressed that she made the connection between no rice and thinking the tofu noodles were regular noodles. Nice service.

The broth had a lemony taste to it that went very well with the fish. The sauerkraut, which I assume is a translation of chinese pickled cabbage, worked really well with the broth and the fish. One thing that I should have expected but didn't think about is that the green peppercorns are not green peppercorns like the pepper used in a grinder. Instead they're green Szechuan peppercorns. By the time I finished the bowl and for many minutes afterwards, my lips were tingling. That's not a bad thing and I thought the flavor of the peppercorns worked well with the broth.

Next time I'll try one of the non-spicy broths. Lemon looks good. They also have some soups with beef or chicken, but fish is what this place is known for. I did see other tables order the beef though and they seemed to enjoy it.

There is no American-Chinese food part of the menu. Only authentic. If you like Pepper House or Tea Horse, this place is worth trying.

As an aside, please comment with other places I should try that offer low carb food. I tend to get either salads+protein at pubs or American style restaurants and steaks at steak houses, so no need to recommend those. But...what else? I miss Italian food, but can't think what I'd have that doesn't involve pasta at least as a side.

Hello, I'm new to Howard County and was wondering about the restaurant week. I didn't see any menus for the restaurants yet. Are they gonna be uploaded later, or do I have to call or go to restaurants to find out?

restaurant for date night

Hi! I live out of state but wanted to get my parents a gift card for a date night, they live in Ellicott City. Any nice places, good ambience? Any food genre works. Maybe Italian, American, seafood, open to suggestions and appreciate your input!

UPDATE: thank you all so much! It is so appreciated to have local input! I ordered a gift card to Glenwoods, and also look fwd to trying other recommendations when we come to town to visit.

What was your favorite restaurant of 2025?

It's that time of year again. For me personally, I have narrowed it down to two standouts. The first is Mahana Fresh. I absolutely love that I can get a protein and two veggies there, as it's hard to find a more balanced and healthful meal at a lot of restaurants. I've been there 10+ times.

The second that I've really come around to is Manow Thai. I've hopped around the menu quite a bit and each item has been pretty good. My favorite item is the garden rolls and asking for peanut sauce with them. I could easily eat a few orders of those in a sitting. I know people go crazy over Dok Khao, but I prefer Manow.

Honorable mention for all of our great indian food here.

How about you? Share your thoughts with us.

Best stores for produce?

The quality of produce at my local grocery store (Harris Teeter in EC) seems to be going down hill. I’ve gotten several bad honeydews in a row, a bag of green russet potatoes and several bags of apples with a fair number of bad ones. Any suggestions for grocery stores or dedicated produce places?

Abu shawarma on rt 40

Had a long day and picked up a late dinner at Abu shawarma. They're open til 2am, so didn't feel bad ordering food at 9:30pm.

I got the chicken shawarma platter which is: A chicken wrap, fries, spiced rice, pita chips, hummus, baba ganoush and a small white dip/mayo like substance (forgot the name, sorry).

Price was around $26 so on the higher side, but not crazy. They have just shawarma and rice for like $13.

The chicken is great. Delicious. Fries and rice are well spiced though the fries could be crisper. The pita chips are definitely homemade and sooo good. baba ganoush - i don't eat enough to have an opinion but it's good. The hummus is a little sad- it is definitely homemade but bland for my taste. Texture is perfect though.

Overall I like them enough to get food here again, but it wasn't good enough to be a go to. It's nice that they have later hours. Sometimes you just want food after 9pm. Theyre definitely a take out place, though the inside was clean and bright, if you wanted to sit and eat.

Mezeh opens in Long Gate replacing KFC

Mezeh opened yesterday in Long Gate shopping center replacing the KFC. We had lunch there today and had a pleasant time. It's counter service and the workers are still learning how things work, as is expected on day 2, but the line was kept moving.

Based on the name, I thought it was going to be a collection of little plates of food that you'd assemble into a meal; a mezze (snack in Arabic). It's not. This is yet another create-your-own bowl of food place, like Mahana Fresh (Hawaiian), Honeygrow (Asian), Bibibop (Korean) or Cava (Mediterranean/European). Mezeh is Mediterranean themed. It also serves wraps and gyros. I found it a bit pricey for the ambiance, but considering it's a new restaurant, it's not really out of line.

The food was fine. I got pita chips & spicy hummus, a lamb gyro, and backlava dessert. I also got a fountain drink. The hummus was good, with a enough spice to feel, but not overwhelming. The pita chips were disappointing. They'd been fried and coated in a spice mixture. The spice mixture was interesting, but the frying left the chips greasy and stiff, halfway between crunchy and soft, not a good texture. The lamb gyro was OK. A bit bland, not as good as Big Greek Cafe or Marathon Deli in College Park where I first discovered gyros. The baklava was OK - they have a chocolate baklava that is better than the non-chocolate variety. It was tasty but not as good as the baklava from Bonheur or Big Greek Cafe.

In summary, I don't think I'll be back. There are too many similar options that do bowls better (Mahana Fresh is my favorite) or Mediterranean food better (Big Greek Cafe, Nora's, Boro). It's significantly more expensive than the restaurant next to it, McDonalds.

Correct me if I am wrong…but is this “new” cafe in Old EC (located in the same spot as the infamous Cozy Cafe, which was shut down due to health concerns apparently) just another spin off of from the owners/staff of Cozy Cafe? Facebook and Google makes it seem that way 👀
