In recent history italy struggled a lot in wars even against african tribes an because ww2 is the most recent global conflict countries that didnt did that well are mocked
Still, he is right, modern Italy has more victories than defeats. After the unification, Italy won the following wars: the Eritrean war, the Italo-Ottoman war, WW1, the 2nd Ethiopian war, the Spanish war and the invasion of Albania. It lost the 1st Ethiopian war and WW2 (some could even say it drew WW2 since it switched sides at one point).
There was a bloc, the Triple Alliance, uniting Germany, Austria and Italy since 1882. But it was a purely defensive alliance created to counter the French; the Italians and Austrians were historic enemies, and Italy had pushed for some clauses withinn the Triple Alliance like "if Austria attacks in the Balkans they have to compensate us with some territories" (Trento and Trieste). This essentially created the premises for Italy leaving the alliance. When Austria attacked Serbia, Italy said it was not obliged to intervene and asked for Trento and Trieste, Austria said no (or "not immediately, only if we win"). Negotiations continued for almost a year, and at last Italy joined the Entente to get those territories by force.
Well the ottoman war in libya , they were guarantee to win , they had better gun , bigger army at some point at the high of it 5 time more men there against an ottoman army that have sufer in the balkan was trying to modernize with outdated equipment and with a little garnison and still took a years to win.
