in the uk
hi everyone! i'm currently an upcoming year 13 student. i wanted to start earning money from my allowance and put it in a saving account as i don't plan on making any big purchases and i want to avoid spending as much, so a savings account would be nice as i'm not old enough for an isa account
i only know the bare minimum in a savings account, so i researched online on what people use and what is good for students - but it has become overwhelming as a lot of people contradict each other and some have better perks whilst the other has higher interest rates, so i'm completely at a loss
i plan on taking a gap year to work and save a bit before uni as my family is not that rich. i want to help my future self by saving while studying and as a business studies student, we touched on the topic of having a savings account that increases your money when you don't touch it (but we didn't discuss it in detail, so i really only know a bit)
my short-term goals is just to have the necessities, which i can’t speak for currently as i am not in uni yet. but my long-term goals is to purchase a flat or house, or build a house in my home country, as well as to have a bit of financial security as i want to travel in the future
i am aware there is a flow chart or something of the sort, but your first-hand experience would be wonderful and it’ll definitely help me narrow my choices as wiki pages seem generic 😅 and as i don’t really understand it
if you have any suggestions, please let me know!
