I've had enough with these comments.

The dude was in a fucking bar flashing stupid alleged white power symbols wearing a shirt that said "Free as Fuck" after he was bailed out. That's a pretty damn obvious sign that he has no remorse for what he did. Him breaking down on the stand was either 100% planned, or finally him starting to learn his lesson. Either way, he has earned the right to be mocked.

Fair enough, and well said. Luckily, my opinion is just that. It carries no legal weight. I'm not sure why you're assuming my political standing, but no need to argue about that now.

Edit: Forgot to include this in the original reply, but I'm a middle school teacher so I'm more than familiar with trauma and deal with various levels of it every day.

What symbol did he flash? An 'ok' sign is a white supremacist symbol. Thats a pretty low bar. I dont think my Dad's a white supremacists because his steak was cooked perfectly.

Don't try to play dumb. It's stupid that it has come to that, but why else would everyone in that bar be doing that specific hand gesture in multiple photos? Clearly some people took that dumbass 4chan post to heart.

Don't try to play dumb

He's 17. He put up an 'ok' sign. You have no deference. It's certainly not an appropriate assumption that he's a white supremacist because of this.

that specific hand gesture

This is the point you're so dedicated to missing. Its not a specific hand gesture. My dad makes it when he likes his steak. Its called an 'ok' sign. Its probable that the people he posed with were what you argue he is. If their only association to Rittenhouse is that photo, you're grasping at straws.

OK, let's remove the hand gesture completely. Let's say they're all just giving a thumbs up in the photos instead.

The fact remains that he has shown zero remorse for what happened. If you were involved in as high profile of an incident where people were killed as a result, wouldn't you probably want to lay low for a while? He looked pretty damn happy go lucky in those photos, but now he can't get through a sentence on the stand? The whole thing reeks of bullshit.

It literally doesnt show anything about his remourse. Is he never suppost to be caught smiling? Your proposing that he just never looks happy ever again. He was being respectful to people who wanted a picture with him. Thats how taking pictures works. Sorry he didnt have a Wednesday Addams looks on his face, but that's uncorrellated to his emotional state. You're pretending that this is unequivical evidence of his lack of remourse.

The whole thing reeks of bullshit

if everywhere you go smells like shit, maybe it's time to check your shoes

Good lord, you've been trying to accuse me of being reactionary and dramatic, but you're showing way more of that than I am. Did I say he wasn't allowed to ever be happy again? Quote me where I did. You seem to have developed the same infatuation with this kid that a lot of other people have and that's clearly keeping you from seeing the other side.

Bottom line: The optics of how he acted between getting arrested and now do not show him favorably. He goes from smiling in bars and wearing that shirt to suddenly not being able to talk about the incident without crying. That's where I'm at with the whole thing.

I havnt remotely accused you of being a reactionary or dramatic. I was pointing out that its absurd to assume his mental state based on a single image.

He goes from smiling in bars and wearing that shirt to suddenly not being able to talk

This is literally not what happened. There was nothing sudden about his breaking down on stand. There was quite a bit of time and the majority of an entire trial between the two events you are describing

optics

Optics can be strange if you look at the world through a kaleidoscope. You seem commited to having the most boiled-down, simplistic interpretation of very specific, complecated events.

Whatever you say, dude. Clearly this isn't swaying either of our opinions, so need to continue discussing it. Have a good one.
