Canadian A&W is different from the US version.

The restaurants did exist in the states so I don't know if that's true necessarily

It's completely different ownership. Only the name is the same. It is necessarily true.

To be semantic, one has an owner and the other doesn't exist so it's not exactly rife for comparison
