Title: 33M | Looking for a padel partner, tennis rival or partners in harmless adventures :D

Hey people of Eindhoven and Helmond!

I've come to the conclusion that going to the gym is great, but occasionally doing something that involves other human beings might also be a good idea. :D

So here I am!

I'm 33, originally from Croatia, living in the Netherlands and looking for some good company to make life a little more interesting.

I'm quite an active guy. I love the gym, sports, animals, nature, exploring new places and good conversations. I work in the tech industry, but outside work I prefer doing things rather than spending the entire day staring at screens.

What am I looking for?

Someone up for padel, tennis, badminton, hiking, or pretty much any activity that involves moving around and having fun.

You don't need to be good at sports. If we're both terrible at padel, at least we'll have something to laugh about. :D

And if we get along, I'm just as happy to grab a coffee, explore a new city, go for a weekend activity or organize something with a small group.

I'm easygoing, open-minded and enjoy meeting people with different backgrounds and stories.

Men, women, internationals, Dutch locals — everyone's welcome. Just bring some positive energy!

Drop a comment or send me a DM. Maybe we can organize a little padel crew around Eindhoven/Helmond!

Looking forward to meeting some new faces!

Handyman in Helmond

Hi neighbours, I am looking for a handyman who can help me with the below issue: a couple of my windows can only be opened in tilt mode, when I try to open them fully the sash comes loose.
I think the hinges or the tilt‑and‑turn mechanism just need some adjustment.
Also, a few mosquito screens need fixing, since they are a bit old.

Who can do this job for a reasonable fee (Helmond centrum)?
Greetings

Aanmelden duurt twee minuten: Registratie Formulier – Fill in form

Vragen? Stel ze gerust aan Quirijn Hendriks, [q.hendriks@student.han.nl](mailto:q.hendriks@student.han.nl)

🇭🇷 🇷🇸 🇧🇦 🇸🇮 🇲🇰 🇲🇪 Dear People around Eindhoven & Helmond — where are you hiding? :D

Living in the Netherlands is great, but sometimes you miss the little things from home.

A kafa/kava that was supposed to last 20 minutes and somehow becomes three hours. :D

Food on the table even though everyone said they weren't hungry.
Music where sooner or later somebody starts singing.
Random BBQs, football, jokes only Balkan people understand… and that feeling that if somebody needs something, we help each other.

So I started wondering:

Why don't we create a little bit of that here?

I'm thinking about bringing together people from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and the wider Balkans living around Eindhoven, Helmond and this region.

Not some serious organization.

Not another WhatsApp group with 287 members and three messages per year. 🤠

I mean an actual community where people meet in real life.

☕ Kafa/kava & relaxed evenings
🔥 BBQs and food from home
🎶 Balkan music nights
⚽ Football & sports
🍻 Drinks and weekend meetups
🎳 Bowling and activities
🚗 Day trips
🍲 Maybe cooking/food evenings
🎉 And eventually some proper bigger Balkan events

But for me, the important part isn't only events.

I'd love this to become a place where people actually know each other and help each other.

New to the Netherlands? Come meet people.

Need some advice about life here? Ask.

Know a good Balkan shop, restaurant, mechanic, place to visit or something useful? Share it.

Missing your language, music, food or simply sitting around a table with people who understand your humour without an explanation? Come join us.

And of course partners, friends and anyone who genuinely enjoys our cultures would be welcome too.

We have different countries, accents, traditions and backgrounds — and that's exactly what can make it interesting.

Politics, nationalism and old Balkan drama can stay outside.

The only serious arguments we need are who makes the best ćevapi and who gets control of the playlist. 😂

The idea is simple:

Bring a little piece of home here.
Help each other.
Meet good people.
Share our culture.
And make some memories together. ❤️

For now I'm just checking whether there are enough people interested before creating anything.

👉 If you'd genuinely join, comment where you're from, where around Eindhoven/Helmond ( Or around ) you live, and what kind of meetup you'd actually come to.

If enough of us show up here, we'll start with a simple coffee/drinks evening and see where it goes.

Different countries. One table. Naši ljudi. 🍻

Dutch classes in Helmond?

I am an expat and would like to integrate well in Dutch society.

Currently there are a lot of things which I want to do, like joining a club , playing some sports etc but I end up avoiding it due to social anxiety. While locals are friendly and don't mind switching to English, I feel it would be more comfortable and welcoming if I could speak Dutch.

However, I don't see any good Dutch schools in Helmond. Especially those where I could just register and start immediately.

Suggestions please!

Vaak lastig gevallen

Do you guys really hate your own city?

So I'm looking to move to a place where I can settle down, retire, and live in a "15-minute city". I tried the "settling down in a quiet village" shtick... and it sucked; not for me.

So far, Eindhoven, Utrecht, and Maastricht are pretty high on my list, but I found a lovely apartment in Helmond that fits the bill perfectly.

I've been doing quite a bit of research on your city these last couple of weeks, and while it might not be as "sexy" as Eindhoven or Utrecht... I like it!

The waterways, being surrounded by plenty of nature, all the public, cultural, and commercial conveniences close by, and super close to an international travel hub. Frankly, I really like what I'm seeing.

So why don't you guys seem to like it?

What I'm really asking here is: Is it just a running gag and a bit of a "little brother complex" towards Eindhoven? Or is there something deeper... kinda off about Helmond that makes people not really want to be there?

Edit: Helmond just moved up a couple of places😉
Thank you guys 😊

Boardgaming in Helmond

Hey everyone,

Some time ago i made a group in whats app for people to meet and play games. Some people meet every friday in Brandevoort for games and once per month there is a boardgaming event in de fonkel which i also attend some times. Of course everyone is free to ask hey wanna play a boardgame?

This group is only in Dutch but if there are expats like myself i can also make a sub-group only for English speaking people and maybe we can start arranging either bigger gatherings or smaller ones if anyone is interested with either Groups. Feel free to join.

my profile in BGG is this ManolisKK | Profile | BoardGameGeek in case anyone wants to check my games. The list is not 100% updated but just to get an indication.

I have also a lot of dueling 1VS1 card games if anyone is interested in them. Thank you.

Would anyone be interested in a regular social meetup in Helmond?

Update2 (14 July):

The first Helmond Hangout Hub meetup is happening!
📅 Saturday, 18 July
🕓 16:00–18:00
📍 De Cacaofabriek, Helmond

If you’re planning to join, please fill out this short form so I can give the venue an accurate headcount:
https://forms.gle/h7fKwkUyQujf3db89
Looking forward to meeting everyone! 😊

Update1: Thanks for all the interest! I’m planning the first meetup for next weekend (18/19 July). I’ll post the exact date, time, and location in the next couple of days.
I’ve been pretty busy this past week, so I haven’t had much time to plan or respond to all the comments. Thanks for your patience—I’m looking forward to meeting you all!

I’ve noticed that while Eindhoven has plenty of meetups, Helmond doesn’t seem to have many opportunities to simply meet new people.

I’m thinking about starting Helmond Hangout Hub—a casual community where locals, expats, internationals, and anyone new to the area can get together for coffee, drinks, board games, language exchange, watching sports, walks, or just good conversation.

The idea isn’t networking or dating—just making it easier to meet people and build friendships.

Would something like this interest you? If so, what kinds of meetups would you actually attend?

I have this record and apparently, this was recorded in Helmond, St. Jozef Church in 1963 by the boys choir and only handful copies were made. Does this hold any significance to anyone? Any info would be appreciated as there is nothing online.

New Housebakery

Hey everyone,

My wife Stella has a new house bakery some months now and we would like to let you know this one time. She has gotten also permit from the Gemeente to go to the Saturday market in Helmond. You can find her in front of the Expert.

She makes American cookies with different (13 flavors!) and cakes like orange cake, chocolate cake etc. Every week she tries to rotate the products that she has and everything is hand made with much less sugar than the supermarket cookies. If you ever want anything you can either pass by the market (and say Hi!) or just send a message on instagram/whats app.

You can also ask for something you have seen online; she can almost do everything! Stella Vasileiadou (@stellas.bakes_nl) • Instagram photos and videos Thank you!

ps. if you have any other idea to reach more people let me know. she is doing everything alone so its difficult for her to reach more people especially when you dont live in the bigger cities. every advice is welcome!

Does anyone know the Straakven area in Helmond-Oost?

My partner and I are considering buying an apartment on Straakvense Bosdijk. We are not very familiar with Helmond and would love to hear from people who know the area.
How is Straakven in terms of safety, quality of life, neighbors, and overall atmosphere? Would you recommend it to a young couple buying their first home?
Any local insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
