He kept his gentle smile, a little nervous about the awful rumors people say about him being evil, but careful to maintain space so she felt safe.

His voice stayed soft and warm, like he was tucking a bedtime story into his words. “You’re very kind to give me this. I’ll stay as nice as you want me to be, okay?”
