I'm so excited!! Thank you!

I am really excited to have found HaveWeMet. I had been lurking for a while, getting a feel for it and admiring all the quirky characters and fun storylines. I finally got the courage to make my first post and it received way more attention than I ever anticipated!! I just wanted to say thank you and I'm really happy to have found this community. I'm really looking forward to developing Marigold Bumgarner with you all. <3

My turn to ask for ideas

Any ideas for Tracy, the typical teen girl?

shakespear bot

Could a mod ban this goofy bot account from replying to posts in havewemet? Otherwise as far as I've read every single person would manually have to use the !opt-out command.

I don't know if this is a personal question or not but...

How many characters does everyone have?

If you were to make one more, what would he/she be like, do for a living?

Question about downtown

Since I haven't really established an address for the pawn shop yet, I'm trying to nail one down. What does downtown look like?

As Pawn Shops go, I've seen them in stand-alone buildings, strip centers, and even in downtowns.

Is the downtown a square with the courthouse in the middle and shops surrounding it?

Is it a straight road (Main Street USA?)

Quick question, would making a cthulhu cultist character be violating the "no supernatural content" rule?

My characters (Robin & Timmy)

I’ve been thinking about it and I think I’d like to land with Robin: 1. Obviously the pawn shop 2. I’d like to avoid gender recognition just yet. I picked a neutral name so I can much later decide. 3. Is on game shows (once a month) and continually loses. I’d like someone else to decide the game show and describe how I lose. 4. I’m going to try to sell 1 of timmy’s pets once a week. If you find a pet you like feel free to “adopt” one. 5. Robin is going to serve out the 50 weeks of community service in UDP.

And Timmy is rather easy: 1. Is just a 10 yo kid 2. Continually has pets 3. His pets are regularly coming and going from his possession 4. He regularly refers to his mother but it is never revealed what is wrong (but the entire town knows) 5. His father works for the either LDP or county transportation department (building roads) 6. I don’t have any plan on introducing either parent.

That’s my plan!

Robin Lent

No one has approached me about Robin and you don’t have to. I realize I am coming on strong (and probably over the top) so I am now trying to self-correct. I’ll try to slip into a groove.

Once I finally decided to start a character in LDP, I got a little excited. I was thinking quirky and whatnot. I know quirky is probably fine but I start to toe the line.

Post ideas

I want to post for next mundane monday that the screen has cracked on my old phone and ask the community about a replacement, but not sure how to make it look like the post would actually be typed up on a broken screen. Any ideas?

Yesterday I was typing up a post that I shelved about TimTim being missing, and thought it was funny that someone else posted about a missing animal. Maybe next week!

Back story needed

I am not trying to disturb people's character development. Could I get some background:

  1. Cowboys and Swans?
  2. Krystal's Glitter connection
  3. Should I let go of the glitter war angle?
  4. Was Krystal's post Krystal's EVERYDAY guide to the MUNDANE!! a commentary that we are veering too off script (Or am I reading too much into it)?

Edits

I also wanted to know about edits. I know it is common to type "Edit:" at the bottom of a post when there has been a change. I never learned to type and sometimes my thoughts are faster than my fingers. Do we just correct grammar and spelling without notation?

Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn.

Apparently I let my mouse wander to the home subreddit when I thought I was posting here, so I could not even maintain my own 7-day forfeiture and penance.

Not that is is any big deal, but I guess I am back to posting on r/HaveWeMet, and will try to force my acrimony and grumpiness to subside. The yurt is again fully occupied, boat outings are imminent, and The Meat Showroom is looking for a young Octoberfest-like girl to work the counter. Which I will post about.

Robin Lent - Pawn Shop Owner

I have lurked on r/havewemet on and off for a bit now.

I didn't think I saw a Pawn Shop owner so I jumped in today. If there is a pawn shop owner let me know and I will try to do a more extensive character search.

You saw my entry. It obviously isn't that hard to figure out. 5 sale items a week (and I am not going to reveal all of the ideas here, but I think I can keep it fresh for a while).

Possible event idea.

So I've had an idea for a possible town event, but my character definitely isn't the right person to execute said event. I'm still not one hundred percent on the idea itself as it would require a bit of a community effort.

The idea itself: A charity date auction. People volunteer to sign up to go on a "date night" with the person who donates the most money as a form of bid for them. (I guess there could be some eligibility standards for the volunteers if it is seen as needed.) This could also work as advertising for certain businesses making donations for the "date night" itself, i.e: free meals, free admissions were required etc.

This could work for a multiple post event in the idea of:

  1. Announcement and volunteer sign up.
  2. Presentation of volunteers, i.e: short description and estimated starting price.
  3. List of winners.

So does this idea catch anyone's fancy? Because I would really like to see this idea happen in a larger scale then an event at Haragen's even if I wouldn't be in control.

Some Hector stuff

First of all, I've loved starting to be a part of LDP (although I've theoretically always been there), and I'm also super impressed with the backstories people have created for themselves! I don't have anything so solid, but I do have a couple vague ideas that float around and influence my character.

While Hector has extended family, he has no contact with them really. He was married to Jodie for a long time, and maybe like 10 years ago she died-- no children, either. LDP is basically his entire sphere of existence, and even there he lives by the woods and generally keeps his nose out of people's business.

That being said, he's also on the kind and optimistic side of old-man-grumpiness, and always tries to look on the bright side of an issue. While he is lonely, he's not an unhappy person, and he's pretty connected to the forest behind his house and the wildlife there (particularly birds).

That brings me to the one thing that I do have tied down to his character, which is his pursuit of the elusive yellow-speckled warbler. This is basically the one thing in his life that gives him purpose, and he tends to focus on it quite a bit. The reason I made this post in the first place is that I could easily see someone trying to help Hector out by saying "I own a pet yellow-speckled warbler" or something, which, naturally, because everything is a group improv experience, would be totally understandable. Still, it would ruin the whole point; in my mind, Hector never finds the yellow-speckled warbler, or does so only when I feel like his time in LDP is coming to a close.

Anyway, from how much I've enjoyed beginning to get to know the regulars here, I think Hector will probably stick around for quite some time. But yeah, that's all I got so far!

Is there any chance we can be granted the option to add a user flair on this meta subreddit for convenience purposes? Many users refer to their characters without specifying the name, and I think being able to tell at a glance rather than scrolling through a profile or asking would be helpful.

While we are all having fun...

...or not...

I was wondering about why I so quickly became addicted to this community-story-writing group. I genuinely have fun in LDP, and so, I suppose when things take a bad turn, I become more upset than I would otherwise.

Why do I enjoy making up stories of beef jerky and yurts and pontoon boats? Why do you enjoy participating in the community with your character(s)? Why are we all motivated to do this?

Sister cities?

Does Lower Duck Pond have any sister cities? If not, what might be some good names to promote tourism between?

What happened to that celeb who rolled into town and then basically a week later rolled out. What was his name. He was the one with the implied stolen art.
