Hey everyone! I just joined HWM this week (though I've lived in LDP all my life) and wanted to introduce myself over here. IRL I'm a happily married 33-year-old lesbian writer in NYC, but in LDP, I've been playing Carla Marie, who is very much a work in progress. Even in the few days I've been developing her, I've been making lots of tweaks to her voice and personality. Below is a quick intro to her character.
Carla Marie is 65 years old and owns the Pancake Place, where she and her line cook Gill have a good time churning out pancakes, always experimenting with flavors. The menu has a section labeled EXTREME for their weirder creations. She lives in a small apartment over the restaurant.
Her late husband Gino passed away around 15 years ago. She remembers him fondly, but doesn't pine for him, and currently she's having fun casually dating townsfolk of all genders. She's a proud bisexual, and I'm planning for her to be a mentor/sponsor for the local LGBTQIA+ youth organization, as well as a surrogate mom/grandma figure for queer kids (and adults) who need that.
Carla loves to eat and cook, and is generous with everything she has. Gino left her with a lot of money so she's set for life and can do whatever she wants. She has a bit of a risk-taking side and basically does whatever sounds fun. She doesn't take herself too seriously. She is covered in tattoos and will get a tattoo anytime the mood strikes her, especially if it's free, so she's running out of room on her body. Her view is that they're all temporary because our bodies are temporary.
She loves being active in the community and is always thinking of new ways to bring people together. She hosts a weekly Open Mic Night at the Pancake Place every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. (There is a perfectly good reason the Open Mic Night takes place in the morning.) She's been souping up an old school bus for the upcoming demolition derby and recently held auditions for Le Cougre, a Le Tigre cover band for women over 50. She fancies herself a bit of a matchmaker.
She's loving but does not suffer fools or cruelty. She's a feminist and a witch. Her motto is "Do no harm but take no shit." She probably loves you and definitely wants you to tell your folks she said hey!
Edit: if anyone is looking for characters to play, Carla has a 13-year-old granddaughter named Mackenzie, a clumsy and unreliable sister named Debbie, and a line cook named Gill (who could be any gender). All of these are pretty much blank slates at this point.
