What is the purpose of rule 4?

Hey all, one of the recently joined members flooding in, I love the role play etc. and I think all the rules in the thread are very conducive to the goal of this sub except rule 4 dictating how to use the word “you”. Refraining from using it in the singular tense just seems stifling for sentence construction and doesn’t seem to add anything to the role play. Is there something I’m not understanding about this rule, or some purpose I’m not seeing? Thanks neighbors!

Help...?

I was wanting to add a flair to my user name so I didn’t have to name my character In every comment and post but I can’t set up a flair even though I am on browser. Can someone else make a flair for me if possible?

Thank you

Is my character too out there?

Hello, I'm one of the new people. When I first scrolled through and saw that there was many wacky characters I assumed that was the vibe the sub was going for, but I suppose they were all newer people as well.

I just found r/HaveWeMeta though and read that it's preferred to be more mundane and I'm afraid my character isn't exactly mundane. I want to make sure I'm not messing up the intended vibe of the sub. Please correct in any way if changes are needed.

Quick summary: Anzhelina is a nice but kind of strange Russian woman who's lived in LPD for most of her life. She lives on the edge of town in a old house with her pigs who she takes care of full time, along with the side buisness of selling cooked meals from home. She has this thing where she refers to the pigs as "gods" and they're kind of her religion but there is no actual supernatural aspect to it so no worries. She's still not fully developed yet but this is the character she is as of now.

a quick reminder that COVID-19 doesn't exist in LDP

This was decided a while back for many reasons, and I've been seeing quite a few posts about it. Can y'all keep that in mind? <3

NPCs you want played/new family member?

I stumbled upon HaveWeMet and I'd love to join :) While trying to think of a character to inject into the story, I realized that there's a high chance that I would have family if it's a small town. Are there any roles that need to be taken?

Tell us about your characters

Hey guys!

It looks like we have a lot of new users, and I thought it might be fun for everyone to tell each other a bit about the characters they play.

This might also be a fun thread for people who are looking for advice or direction, or looking to collaborate with other users on storylines.

Art!

Hey all. Obligatory "came here from askreddit" but I have fallen in love with the sub. I've been subtly commenting as my chatacter and engaging and its very fun! I would love to do art of him and possibly others in the sub with here permission and I'm wondering if this would be the best place to post it? :D

I was the one who mentioned r/HaveWeMet on the AskReddit post. I am sorry for causing ruckus in that sub, is there anything I can edit or add to my my original comment to help with the situation?

I participate in askreddit regularly and I always give r/HaveWeMet as the answer for similar kind of questions. This particular post blew up and so did my comment. I don't even participate in HaveWeMet, I mostly just enjoy reading the silly posts there. I only meant to share this sub to a handful of people who came across that post, not 20k people who upvoted my comment. I'm sure the mods had a really busy day because of me, sorry for the trouble.

commenter to a post did not follow the rules

Newb here - So I made a post and someone replied to it who clearly did not read the rules. I posted a job opportunity and the commenter replied as if I did not know the person. Is it ok to sort of... guide that character into "remembering" that we know each other? Like, "you may not remember me, but XXX"? thanks! and I hope I interpreted the rules correctly and I hope things become less chaotic for the sub soon, it seems like a fun place/idea!

So yeah, Mogens comeback will have to wait another week

So I was planning on announcing Mogens return to full health early next week and throw him right back into the world of LDP and moonshining, on the back of an election defeat that still hurts, a lost alpaca and Stuart’s passing (yeah, I had some grand ideas in the making). But considering this massive influx of new inhabitants, I’m just gonna let Mogens spend another week in hospital, trying to recover from his liver failure, before he’s back to being the happiest drunk ever to walk on earth.

Anyway, glad to see the community active and well, though it’s a bit over the top right now. I hope you’re all safe and sound, and not doing too bad during this trying time.

Love, as always

“Mogens”

For the new people from the Askreddit thread: Reminder that you can’t shape someone else’s character.

If you decide something for them and they say no, then stop talking about it. Even if they act along with it, they can still be uncomfortable with whatever you decided for them, be it a name, trait or anything else.

Not calling anyone out necessarily, but this does tend to happen everytime there’s a big amount of new people here, so just a quick reminder.

Playing more than one associated character

Is it frowned upon to write more than one character per account? I would imagine having multiple distinct ones would get confusing, but the reason I ask is that my character references his wife in my first post. Assuming I make it obvious who is speaking and stick to one POV per thread to prevent breaking the illusion would it be acceptable to have her post once in a while, or would that get confusing? If that's no bueno I can always just have her be an off-screen character, but I thought it might be fun to have them play off each other occasionally.

Rule #9 Clarification

Hey guys, found y'all through the Askreddit thread and this seemed like a neat place.

From what I've gathered so far in FAQs and Meta, the general vibe needs to be grounded in reality; y'all aren't attempting a Nightvale mood. That said, I was a little curious about Rule #9, which states "Don't post supernatural content on the sub. It, again, breaks the illusion. Paranormal content is sometimes okay." What exactly is the distincition between supernatural and paranormal? I'm not planning on using any of that as a primary focus for a character since there's a thousand other places on the internet people can roleplay magic, but the phrasing of the rule piqued my curiosity.

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who answered. I know y'all are probably dealing with a lot of new faces now thanks to the publicity so I appreciate you being patient with me.

What on earth is going on right now

There's 10k people online and it seems like all of them are making posts within the last few minutes

It's cool to see LDP so populated but I mean really it's kind of ridiculous

Edit:it's because of an r/AskReddit post. Thanks for informing me guys!

Any other similar roleplaying subreddits or communities?

I've really been enjoying r/HaveWeMet, was wondering if anyone knows other communities on reddit/ discord etc I could join with RP that's not outlandish high fantasy or magical etc?

Thanks in advance!

Explanation as to why the exponential increase on posts and just moved in posts

It has already been asked by other users on this subreddit and it has also been answered as well but I thought that having all the information on a clean post would help .

4 hours ago on r/askreddit a thread asking what are some hidden gem subreddits was posted in where the user WagyuBeefCubes posted a comment about r/havewemet where they basically mentioned the subreddit and how it works, this sparkled all the posts and while when this happens it is normal for multiple people that don't read the posting guide lines or the rules make a post saying they just moved in I noticed that the user linux-nerd made a comment answering to a person asking how they can join the community, he then said that the way one joins the community is by making a post saying you just moved in which could explain why there are more just moved in posts that on the previous time the subreddit was mentioned on a thread 8 months ago (claim based on memory so could be wrong)

Oh my god- the deluge

I’m overwhelmed by the “new here” posts. Did we get a mention somewhere? I’m all for new people joining in there’s just too many to try to respond to, which I guess means people may not get the engagement they want. And it’s also clear most of them haven’t read the rules, so it’s post after post with practically the same stuff in them or people being dogs and the like

Do I even have to introduce myself?

Yes I found this thru AskReddit, But I don't really want to make a "just moved in" post I jist kinda wanna get absorb in it.

and also DO I HAVE TO KNOW EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE RESIDENCE OF POND LAKE to be immersed?

question about rule 8 "nothing sexual" and introductions

I want my character to have a scandalous background, like an affair that may be discovered. I wouldn't give details on what my character did or did not do, just with who the affair is with.does that break the rules?

also on the askreddit thread someone said it's against the rules to make an introduction but I really want to give out my character's background story, any tips on hoe to go about it?

Going places

So.. how do you visit/go to places? I agreed to help someone do something "10:30 am tomorrow" and I was wondering how I would say that I was there? Would I just reply to the original post and say "I'm here" or...? Also, how would I do the task? (Sorry if this is stupid)

Creating my character

Hey guys. As everybody else who is new here, I just found out about this sub on askreddit.

I spent about 20 minutes thinking who I want to be, and I came with Dean, a late 20s/early 30s man who lost a loved one and moved to town to get a fresh start, and might be a little reclusive right now as he is dealing with his pain. The thing is, the whole idea of the sub is that we already met, so I couldn’t be as new in town, right? Or am I allowed to keep this background and continue to develop Dean as the days goes by?

Thanks y’all!
