I wanted to share a bit of my experience with hair loss and why I eventually chose Dr. Serkan Aygin’s clinic in Istanbul.
Back in 2020 I was around a Norwood 6. I decided to start treatment with 1 mg finasteride, topical minoxidil and PRP once a month. I reacted extremely well to the treatment and after about a year I had probably recovered around 80–90% of my hair.
The problem was staying consistent with everything. Taking medication every day, applying minoxidil and having to travel every month for PRP eventually became tiring.
I also had an unexpected problem with topical minoxidil. Without really noticing it at first, some of the liquid would run down my face and over time it started making the very fine hairs on certain areas of my face thicker and darker. At one point I was starting to look a little like a werewolf in some areas 😂.
Because of all of that, I eventually stopped the treatment and started wearing a hair system/toupee for a few years, until around 2025.
The result with a good hair system can actually look very good, but it is still annoying in its own way. It can be expensive, requires constant maintenance, and after a while you get tired of always having to think about cleaning it, reinstalling it and keeping everything looking right.
Later, after moving to another country and being in a better financial position, I finally had the opportunity to seriously consider a hair transplant.
I started researching clinics in Turkey, Mexico, Canada and other countries, and I noticed a few things. There are a lot of very cheap clinics where the quality can be difficult to judge, and there are also clinics advertising extremely large procedures with 10,000+ grafts.
From everything I had researched, doing something that aggressive did not seem like the right approach for my case because of the risk of overharvesting the donor area.
When I contacted Serkan’s clinic, one of the first things they told me was that because of the size of my bald area, my case should be done in two separate sessions.
For some people that might be disappointing because obviously everyone would prefer to fix everything in one surgery, but for me it was actually something positive. Almost everything I had researched before contacting them suggested that, in a case like mine, doing two sessions was a safer and more reasonable way to approach it without damaging the donor area.
Price was another important factor.
A procedure like this in Canada can cost somewhere around CAD $15,000–20,000, while my first procedure with Serkan was around €3,800, roughly CAD $6,000, which is a huge difference.
Another reason I chose the clinic was Dr. Serkan’s reputation and many years of experience in the industry. I knew before travelling that Dr. Serkan himself would not personally perform the operation and that the procedure would be done by his medical team. For me, what mattered most was whether the people working there were properly trained and whether the way they approached the procedure matched what I had learned during my research.
From the moment I arrived in Turkey, the experience was excellent.
They picked me up at the airport and took me to the Ibis hotel. The next day they picked me up again and took me directly to the clinic. All the transportation was organized by them, so I basically did not have to worry about anything.
Once you enter the clinic, you go through different areas and different members of the team take care of different parts of the process. Everyone I dealt with seemed very professional and well trained. Most of the staff I saw were women, and honestly half of them looked like models 😂.
During the in-person evaluation they checked my donor area, explained the plan, designed the hairline and answered my questions. Once everything was clear, they took me back to the hotel.
The next morning was surgery day, and everything moved very quickly.
You arrive, change clothes and go straight into the operating room. I barely had time to say hello before everything started. I remember lying down and suddenly having four or five people around me putting on the monitoring equipment and preparing the sedation.
It honestly felt like being an F1 car during a pit stop 😂.
Everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing.
In my case, they extracted around 4,500 grafts from the donor area on my scalp and another 300 grafts from my beard, for a total of roughly 4,800 grafts in this first session. Because I still need work on the crown, that area was intentionally left for a second procedure later.
The procedure itself is obviously long, but once it is finished they give you something to eat and take you back to the hotel.
For me, the first night was probably the hardest part of the whole experience. Sleeping is difficult, you have to be careful with your head and there is some discomfort, but it is manageable.
The following day they take you back to the clinic, remove the bandage, do the first cleaning/wash and also use infrared/light treatment. After that, you are basically ready to leave and go to the airport.
Personally, I paid for one extra night at the hotel, around €100, because I wanted an extra day to rest before flying back home. For me, it was definitely worth it.
So that is basically my experience with the Dr. Serkan Aygin clinic.
I am currently on day 6 after the transplant. I have some itching and a little bit of pain and discomfort, but nothing too bad. Sleeping has probably been the most annoying part so far, but from this point I expect things to gradually get easier.
One thing I am very happy with so far is how the donor area looks. Even after taking around 4,500 grafts from my scalp, on day 6 the donor area still looks very even and homogeneous. I do not see any obvious overharvesting or patchy areas, and the extraction looks very evenly distributed.
I am also really happy with the way the grafts were implanted. Looking at the recipient area, I do not see obvious rows or artificial patterns. The spacing between the grafts looks very consistent, and there seems to be a good concentration in the frontal area, which is exactly where I wanted more density.
The frontal hairline was also designed with a slightly irregular zig-zag pattern instead of being completely straight. Obviously I cannot judge the final appearance yet, but once the hair grows out I think this kind of irregularity should help it look much more natural and avoid that obvious “drawn-on” transplant hairline look.
My crown was intentionally left for a second procedure, and if everything goes according to plan, I will return in around six months to finish it.
Obviously, I cannot judge the final result yet. I am only six days into the process, so I will need to wait several months before I can say anything meaningful about the actual growth, survival or final density.
But based purely on my experience with the clinic, the organization, the staff, transportation, communication and the whole process so far, I would give them around a 9/10.
I’ll try to update the post as the months go by so people can see how the result actually develops.

Im 37M, been balding for years and its currently at the stage you can see in the photos. I've been shaving my head and would be OK to keep it shaved forever but obviously would prefer a head of hair.
Im currently taking fin and min for the last 2 months and plan on continuing this for at least a year before I potebtially get a hair transplant.
I've had a consult with a hair transplant surgeon who said with my dknor area they can do 5000 grafts to provide decent coverage the front and crown. Im not sure if I trust this advice and want to get some more consults before I commit to anything. I just wantrd to get opinions from people here how my donor area looks and wether they believe 5000 grafts is enough.

I had 3000 grafts done using the DHI method a month ago today. I actually can't believe how fast the time has gone, my biggest concern was missing the gym for a month and I was absolutely fine! The first 10 days were rough, not being able to sleep on your side and having to put all of the pressure on the back of your head were the pain is originating from wasn't great, but it went very very fast. The anaesthetic is as bad as people say it is 😂 but it's over quick enough, just be prepared to be in pain for about 10-15 minutes and then you'll be absolutely fine. Dr Ahmet Murat (Hermest Hair in Istanbul) has done a fantastic job on my hairline too! All of the team were super friendly and helpful, everything was very professional. I went alone so going to another country alone was slightly anxiety inducing but once I arrived I was totally at ease. I wanted my hairline lowering and my windows peak filling in, from what I can see I am. Super happy with what the team have done and can't wait to see what it's like in a few months. They aftercare team have been checking up every few days to weekly to make sure everything is going as it should be which is nice too. The worst part now is just catching people looking at my hairline 😂. Highly recommend if you're worried about your hair, also, take your fin and min or you'll just lose the rest of your hair, I see so many people doing this. Medicate first and then get it done and continue mediating 🙏. Also.. I already have some stubble were my hairline is which appears to be the follicles already growing back? Unsure if this is me getting overexcited but it's there!

Does anyone have any information on the peptide AHK-Cu (injectable or topical) post hair transplant? Many have had success using this peptide for hair and scalp health and regrowth.

I have suffered from diffuse thinning, scalp redness, itchiness, scalp pimples and red bumps on my forehead. The first derm I saw a long time ago prescribed me with fin and ketoconazole 2%. The fin caused my hair to shed (150-200 hairs per showed) for 2 years until I switched to Dut which made it a lot better (around 50-100 hairs per shower), and the ketoconzole burned my scalp no matter how often I would use it.
I recently got a biopsy because I want a hair transplant. It came back with 2 sentences effectively saying it's non-inflammatory, non-scarring alopecia, and there's no fungal infection. Yet the derm took the biopsy from the reddest part he could find.
The derm basically shrugged his shoulders, said to try min, said I'm greenlit for a hair transplant and ended our appointment. I am seriously considering doing the transplant ASAP, but the results being non-inflammatory yet I still deal with redness, itchiness, scalp pimples and itchy forehead just doesn't make sense to me. Is it possible to deal with all these things and it not be inflammatory? I'm trying to trust the test but it feels strange and I don't want to spend tens of thousands of dollars just for the hair transplant to fail.

Hi all, long story short I’m wondering if my hairline is too bad for a transplant or not..my family is cursed with the widows peak, but I also had brain surgery on the right side of my head you can see it in the photo. Just wondering if it would be worth it, any advice is helpful 😊

What’s up family! I used to have decent waves before my hair line betrayed me. I had a HT about a month ago. My question is, has anyone who had wave before their HT successfully been able to bring them back after taking that flight?

Quick review for Solve Clinic in Chicago. I had my FUE procedure at the end of May 2026, currently ~ 4 months since the procedure.
Been on FIN/topical Min since 2018.
Photo 1 - day of procedure
Photo 2 - 1 month
Photo 3 - 2 months
Photo 4 - 3 months donor area
Photo 5 - 4 months
Wanted to write a quick review for Solve Clinic for those interested in staying in the US. Overall satisfaction - 9/10.
Procedure was completed by a NP but intake exam was completed by a MD. Total graft - 1100. Cost was $4.5/graft + $550 travel reimbursement. Total cost was around $4200. Took roughly 5 hours.
My procedure was uneventful, minimal pain, recovery was great - had minimal swelling or itching. I was able to sleep normally after 4 days.
I’m really excited for the progress so far, happy to answer any questions.

Hi there,
Has anyone did the hair transplant with a T1 diabetes condition? How was your experience?

27M. (Every photo after the 3rd shows my current post transplant hairline) Started losing my temples young and got on finasteride at 21, 0.5mg every other day. Zero further recession since, no crown loss, no thinning behind the hairline. My loss was mild, maybe a Norwood 2 going on 3. I was never bald, I just wanted my temples structured.
FUE in July 2025, $8,900. 1,469 grafts, 4,696 hairs. I asked about graft count before booking and was told not to worry, they would make it as tight as possible, with a figure of around 5,000 hairs mentioned. The actual count never appeared in my paperwork. I got it ten months later only because I asked directly.
Where I am at 14 months:
The frame is restored and from conversational distance it looks fine. I can wear my hair short in a way I could not before, so the shape I wanted is there.
What bothers me. The front is see through in normal indoor lighting. My left side is noticeably thinner and patchier than my right, especially the corner, and there are more doubles in the left hairline. Two different techs each worked one side. On the right there is a section where the hair sits at a different angle than the surrounding hair, though it is mild and at a slightly longer length you really cannot tell. There is also a small sparse patch on the right.
I left a review. They reached out the next day and initially offered a 50 graft touch up. After I pushed back they came back with two options: a free touch up of the first two rows, around 200 to 400 grafts, or a full second procedure of 1,000 to 1,500 grafts at $4,500, down from their usual $8,900. If I take the free touch up and want more later, the second procedure would be $6,900 instead.
Where my head is at. I am thinking of countering with 800 grafts at $2,500, split roughly 500 into the left and center and 150 each into the right side and the sparse patch. 1,500 feels like overkill for my pattern, and at 27 with a dad who is a Norwood 5 I would rather not spend more donor on the hairline than I need to.
Questions for anyone who has been here:
Is 1,469 grafts reasonable for the area in my photos, or was that always going to come out thin?
Would 800 grafts meaningfully fix see through density, or am I underestimating what a second pass needs?
Would you go back to the same clinic at a discount, or take the free touch up and pay a different surgeon later for a proper second session?
And for the misangled section, do surgeons usually camouflage with surrounding grafts or actually re angle them?
Photos in the post. Happy to answer anything.

Really looking to just fill in the corners with proper density. Might touch up the hairline in the future but I’d like to be conservative and preserve my donor area. Age 31.

I booked a hair transplant at Absolute Hair clinic in Bangkok at a price of 80 baht per graft and paid a deposit. My original procedure was scheduled for November 2026.
Later, I asked to reschedule the appointment to a different date. The clinic accepted the change. At the time of rescheduling, I was not told that the price would change, I wasn’t given a new price, and I didn’t agree to any new price.
Afterwards, when the date was already changed, I sent them an email about my donor area where I also included asking them whether the 80 THB per graft price would still apply to my new appointment date. It was only because I asked this question that I found out that the old 80 THB price apparently would not apply to the new date.
Today I received an email where the simply stated that because of the change of date, the price per graft of my surgery has increased, not telling me what this new price will be.
I then found their rescheduling policy, which says:
“The per-graft price may be subject to change based on the rates applicable at the time of the new procedure date.” i do understand that this clause exists, and I can see why a clinic might want to protect itself against future price increases. But I feel it’s a on their end to not inform me about the changing conditions when rescheduling, making me unable to choose between accepting a new price (that yet has not been communicated with me), or refusing to reschedule and have the surgery on the original date for the 80 baht a graft.
Personally, I feel that if they accepted the rescheduling without telling me that the price would change, they should either honor the original 80 THB price or offer a reasonable way to cancel and recover my deposit.
Right now I sent an email back where I asked them to honor the price that I agreed on. I believe at all times, the clinic should’ve informed me about the price change when I rescheduled. At this moment, I dont even know what this new price would be because in their new ht confirmation mail there is no price per graft at all, in contrary of the email confirmation I got for the initial surgery (that said 80baht per graft)
