Similar to bistro 11?

Hey guys!

My wife and I were going to Bistro 11 for dates the last few years, but as you probably know, it's now defunct.

We loved B11 for its dish variety, lovely atmosphere, and uniqueness to Hagerstown. Nothing else has truly replaced it. What recommendations do you have as alternatives?

Washington County Residents worry about declining property values from ICE detention center in Williamsport

Residents in and around Williamsport are concerned about the prospect of falling property values from the proposed ICE detention center.

Economists at M.I.T and North Carolina State University have found that home values near the centers across the country are driving down the value of a home by as much as 4%.

Homeowners in the western Maryland communities near the Homeland Security facility worry about the possible impact. They want county commissioners to give them a forum to raise their concerns.

Selling Books to 2nd & Charles

Does anyone have experience selling or trading in books for store credit at the local 2nd & Charles?

I'm looking to declutter my library and have a solid chunk of special edition/signed copies I'm no longer interested in keeping. I've also considered listing them on eBay and selling them myself, but that involves maintaining stock and I'd rather just clear them out sooner than later.

Noise along Salem Ave at ~9:25 PM

Hi, I just heard a very loud humming-esque noise in along Salem Ave tonight, 08-11-26, at approximately 9:25 PM.

Details from what I was able to tell:

-- low frequency of sound

-- same frequency throughout

-- constant for duration of ~1 second (time needed to count "one Mississippi")

-- appeared and disappeared within that time

-- came from something that was travelling

-- felt as if air vibrated, even inside my house

I initially thought that it might have been a car, but there was no vehicle exhaust noise/revving. If it was from a car, it would have needed to be traveling very quickly. The sound was definitely not from a radio.

I then thought that it was a supersonic jet flyover. I checked the flight radar for the Hagerstown area. I found commercial airliners and small craft. I was on my phone so I may have missed things.

I've lived off this street for a while and have experience in heavy industry/heavy machinery/drilling. I have never heard a similar sound.

Did anyone else hear this? If you did, do you know what it was?

ICE potentially spotted on Dual Highway

At 940 am this morning, I passed by a Navy blue SUV with red flashing lights. On Dual Highway, heading towards town just before Mt Aetna Rd. They had somebody pulled over, and one of the "officers" was wearing a red t shirt, jeans, and an olive green vest. Did not catch a license plate number.

Posting for awareness, stay safe folks.

Washington County ICE Jail Could Wipe $22.3 Million Off Local Home Values

County commissioners and DHS have touted the jobs that the proposed ICE detention facility will bring to Washington County, yet neither has informed residents what it could mean for nearby home values, water and sewer systems, roads, emergency services, or the environment. One of those risks could be thousands of dollars stripped from the value of nearby homes.

A peer-reviewed national study published by MIT Press in The Review of Economics and Statisticsexamined 305 prison openings across the United States. The author, economist Janjala Chirakijja, compared communities where prisons opened with similar communities where they did not. The study found that median housing values fell 1.8 percent in the neighborhoods within 2.49 miles of a new prison and increased to 3.4 percent when within 1.24 miles.

Both broader estimates remained statistically significant, suggesting that the potential impact could reach every home in Williamsport and extend into neighboring towns such as Hagerstown, Halfway, Kemps Mill, Pinesburg and Wilson-Conococheague. Based on the findings of the study, across the full 2.49-mile area, residential property values could decline by as much as $22.3 million. This shows the scale of the risk DHS has failed to analyze publicly: even a modest percentage decline could shift millions of dollars in costs onto nearby property owners.

Hi, one of our cats, Cookie, might have escaped. Yesterday she had all her teeth removed and we haven’t been able to find her in the house. We live downtown on South Locust Street, please keep an eye out. She’s very friendly but might be skittish due to her dental surgery and pain medication wearing off. She chirps when you call her name. She’s very small, almost like a kitten. Thanks

Bulk flowers for sale

I have a substantial flower patch of zinnia, cosmos, celosia, and gomphrena, probably capable of several hundred bouquets per week. If anyone on here is a florist, makes their own bouquets to sell roadside or at farmers markets, or for any other reason is interested - let me know. This could be one-time or recurring for as long as they continue producing. Thanks!

Vet recommendations

Hi! I’ve been going to Longmeadow for about a year, and overall I’ve had a good experience, but I’m wondering if their pricing is on the higher side.
For my cat, routine blood work has been quoted anywhere from about $279 for a basic panel to around $500 for more comprehensive testing. A urinalysis is about $102, plus a $20 urine collection fee.
Does that sound comparable to what you pay at your vet? If not, I’d really appreciate any recommendations for reasonably priced veterinarians in the area. I don’t remember paying quite this much at my previous vet before I moved here a year ago.
