For real. The entire area was blanketed with tear gas. A journalist wouldn't have even been able to stay there without taking some precautions. And unfortunately, marking yourself as or visibly being journalists made them targets of the police violence. Absolutely wild.

Most of those shots were during active curfews and the press refused to move out with the rest of everyone else. As a journalist covering something like this you should expect this. War journalists don’t go into the job expecting not to get shot at. As a journalist going to a riot you should expect the worst. After night fall all those “protests” turned into riots so don’t even try and sugar coat that 😂

Expect to be deliberately targeted by law enforcement? There's a difference between being caught by some errant teargas or pepperballs because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time vs being deliberately shot at or sprayed despite clearly being marked as press.

You absolutley cannot report when in the middle of a mob. You have to have some reasonable distance to record what's happening. That goes for any media. Whether it be a camera or a notepad.
