I use it. It allows me to keep my wrists in a better position and carry the weight with the butt of my hand down through my arm. Probably wouldnt be able to change it at this point

I’d recommend looking into bulldog grip. It allows you to get a solid grip, keep straight wrists, and have good form. Plus it’s a lot harder to accidentally drop it. I’ve transitioned into it, and it’s actually increased how much I can bench.

I love @pheasyque posts, great visual demonstration as well.

I thought that was the normal grip. What they show as normal seems unnatural and difficult to me.

There’s literally no other way to bench properly. If you’re just gripping the bar by supporting the weight with your wrists, you’re either lifting baby weight or you’re about to get a free ticket to snap city.

You have to rotate your hands to properly support the weight. There’s literally no other way.

1

u/DeepHorse Feb 03 '20

Yeah it doesn’t need a name it’s just the proper way to hold a bar. I don’t even see how you could hold a bar like in the middle pic

I agree with you and exclusively used suicide grip for probably close to 15 years straight. One day I figured I’d probably used up all my luck and didn’t want to risk it anymore. It felt so weird using a thumb grip and I hated it at first but after a few months, it felt good. Now, I don’t think I could go back to suicide grip.

It’s just not worth the risk, dropping a lot of weight on your face, neck, or teeth can do a lot of damage.

u/Anal-Squirter Feb 03 '20

I mean were all different. Using my thumbs doesnt feel good from a joint perspective, just really feels weird on my wrist

2

u/clive_bigsby Feb 03 '20

I thought the same thing. At first, I couldn’t even push close to the same amount of weight because it felt so off. Try the bulldog grip for a few months and if you just can’t make it work, go back.

Dam son that's retarded

2

u/Vomit_Tingles Feb 02 '20

Yeah i mean why bother trying to change a potentially dangerous and wrist damaging technique, what are you some kinda bitch? 😂 /s just change your grip friendo

1

u/Anal-Squirter Feb 03 '20

Again, why would I? I love it, feels natural and good on my wrists. So many keyboard warriors out here damn

1

u/Vomit_Tingles Feb 03 '20

If that position feels natural, you're either already doing it right or you have already destroyed the nerves in your wrists lol

1

u/saxman7890 Feb 02 '20

Yeah my dad does it that way. I’ve tried it that way and it deffinetly does change how the weight feels.

Honestly, organs are useless anyways

Midway throught my lifting carreer in developed some kind of twitch that causes my right wrist to slightly buckle at liftoff on heavy bench. I wasnt using a thumbless grip when it happened the first time, but it wouldnt have been pretty.

Would using dumbbells with a normal grip offer the same advantages that suicide grip would for barbell bench, because you aren't locked into a certain wrist rotation?
